i dont think you can cook with teflon coated pans if you have a parrot. I think something in that kills them. My old highschool teacher still has a parrot its cool to see time to time but its very loud.

Parrots can live to be around 65 years old.

"i dont think you can cook with teflon coated pans if you have a parrot. I think something in that kills them"
aren't they meant to kill them before you put them in the pan?

A few years back, the San Diego Zoo had a group of parrots escape, and since then they've all pro-created and populated my little town of Ocean Beach. Now, every morning at sunrise, dozens of parrots, sitting on telephone lines, squawking so riducously loud, it's seriously chaos. I swear you think some lady's getting hacked up outside your window.

me and my ex took on an african gray for about 3 months. holy crap they are smart. he was always getting out of his cage, cruising around the house. he would sit on my head. bert was awesome, cept when he quoted my ex's mother. the bird sounded just like her. they require a lot of attention. but if you have it to give, you should get one. i would have to recommend an african gray because they are wicked smaht

I have a Senegal parrot someone gave us free. The thing freaks me out. It always wants to fly and land on your head and it can bite you anytime with its nut cracking beak. They are unpredicatable as far as biting their owners. It looks cool and can talk though. When there is a lot of commotion it squawks so I had to put it in a less frequently used room.

i do not like them, nor feel they should be caged as 'pets'. they are not domesticated animals and thevast majority require an infinite more space that any cage allows for.
as a related side-note; there are 2 huge mcaws that live in the building across the street from me here in Lima that make for goddamn noise all day that drives us nuts. all i hear all day is 2 of these yelling: "Hola", "como estas señorita?" and whistling.

I don't thinking caturing them or keeping them in captivity is right either.
Mine is so loud I joked about killing it before. My friend from India told me you will be cursed or something if you kill a parrot.

the reason parrots are so expensive is so you'll think long and hard before killing the annoying bastards. on the other hand parakettes are cheap so when your annoying parrot is making you insane you can go down to the local pet store, by 2 or 3 parakettes, take them home and kill them in front of the parrot. that'll shut the motherfucker up for a week or so and it only cost you like 20 bucks!

I've had cockatiels for years. Don't get a parrot unless you are sure you can commit to it the rest of your life. I've seen some really sad cases with African Greys who are abandoned by self absorbed idiots who buy them for the novelty of having an exotic creature.
Parrots (especially African Greys) are really smart, they are like children and like any intelligent animal (have the intelligence of a 6 year old I've heard), they need alot of socialization and attention. They get really attached to their owners and can go crazy if not treated right or abandoned.
Get a fish.

i had one for 15 years and would NEVER do it again. if keeping a flight animal in a cage for its entire life isn't enough of a turn-off, remember they are very dirty and need a great deal of attention.
mine got to fly around lots, but it was still too sad.
