Interesting that the only Anderson film that sucked eggs -- Life Aquatic -- is also the only one that Owen Wilson didn't help write.

I like Paul Thomas Anderson a little bit more, but I would say the Coen Brothers are still the best American Filmmakers right now.

i love Wes Anderson, but to fairly measure them by their breathe of work, i have to agree that the Cohen brothers are the tops. every one of their films except for Millers Crossing (which i hated) is absolutly beautiful. i could though, watch any one of Anderson's everyday for proably the rest of my life and be thoroughly happy though.

Wes Anderson is the Nopattern of filmmaking, all style, no substance. Shitty director, fuck him.

No substance?! Did you even watch Rushmore?! or The Royal Tennenbaums?! Or Life Aquatic?!
3 of my fav movie ever...so poignant...so uncomfortable...so utterly brilliant...

I love wes anderson, and i love the coen brothers, but the coens have been putting out a bunch of shit lately. The man who wasn't there? Intolerable cruelty? The Ladykillers?
Boo.

Have to agree with the dissenters. The enforced quirkiness becomes tedious after the first 10 minutes.
Message to Anderson: Turn down the Tweak.

Wes Anderson is a great talent, BUT I fell asleep during Life Aquatic. Very few laughs, the story just plodded along and way too much Bowie for one movie (I like Bowie but c'mon).
And to whoever said they didn't like Miller's Crossing, the hell you say! That is a classic Gangster movie if there ever was one. The Coens may have been putting out a lot of shit lately, but I can't say for sure as none of their last 3 flicks have motivated me enough to watch them, but hope is on the horizon. They're shooting 'No Country For Old Men' the latest novel by Cormac McCarthy this year.

lol- i said i didn't like Miller's Crossing but only in that it didn't appeal to me. i still think it is a very well-made film. i will say though, that the scene in the dark room where there have the 2-angle conversation in one take w/o cuts is truely beautiful.
i love it gangsta, just that one did not resonate....

i didn't like the royal tenenbaums all that much after all the hype i saw about it online..
bit of a dissapointment to be honest..
it didn't really grabbed my interest intensely enough thru most of the movie to be called brilliant.
