...got rejected by ten major publishing houses. An editor at one, who shall forever remain nameless, wanted to make an offer but couldn't convince his boss that the novel would sell. In the end, they passed because the book, "doesn't have a big enough hook." I could self-publish, promote the shit out of it online. See what happens. Or I could start writing again.

Self publish. I'm working with a good friend of mine right now who's self publishing her own book. It's been over a year in the making between the writing and footwork, but anyday now we're going to print.

my girlfriend and i self published my book. cost a shit ton of money and we're in debt because of it, and probably not gonna be able to sell all the copies or even pay it off, but you know what? totally worth it.
having something i made, wholly and 100% mine, in front of me... worth every penny. the experiece alone is great. do it yourself.

Have you thought about trying CafePress? They do book printing on demand. I think they will do color covers and b/w copy.
Get someone here to design an ass kicking cover and shit, and get on a roll. No Money Down! :) Get yo' book out dere!

if it's not a good book and won't sell, why bother?
most authors have books they never published
that live your dream stuff people are telling you will only make you poor
write a new one with a better hook

just because some editors think it won't sell doesn't mean it's not a good book.

it amuses me when people have moments of transparency, it makes me cringe when I realise how thin the skin is, how hollow the vessel, how vast the void.

find more publishers.
self publishing sucks: you have a garage full of books and no where to put/sell them....
i agree with scarabin in part, self publishing can make you poor... when you are poor, getting a loan to publish more gets harder and harder....
find more publishers... if that don't work, revise your book. sometimes it can take 10+ yrs to get published.

get an arts grant and self publish. if you can't an arts grant because the republicans want everything to look like a fucking strip mall then nussle up to some rich people who hand out cash so that they can be invited to parties. they tend to be doctors with socialite wives.

peddle it as a memoir

try a very very very independent press that makes its presence well known
