to buy the mac book pro. i just got paid. i was going to buy a powerbook last month, then word of this new computer came out. i admit i dont have my ear to the ground when it comes to the mac world. is there any reason why buying this computer would be a bad idea?

I buy a new pair of shoes from the shoe man

hist - if you can possibly stand it, hold out until the 2nd generation of the bookpros come out. 2nd generations tend to be better than their predecessors (kinks worked out, etc)
- histwinsiste0
how long does that take
- gruntt0
6 months or so.

what exactly is the greatness of bringing an "INTEL" chip into aa mac??
someone explain this to me!!!
thaanks!!
- JazX0
6 months is a misnomer, he meant 6 years.

i 2nd the wait... no software is intel yet either... well not alot.... herd adobe is going to take longer then expoected to transfer.. and havnt herd anything about the roserita or what ever the emulater is

but what is the glitz to having a pc chip in the mac? other than getting viruses whats the hype???
after years of being brainwashed that mac is best and pcs are for emailers and viruses what is the big hooHA/?!??
- Momentum0
ya i don't get it either... can you run pc programs in the new mac too??? whats the BIG DEAL!!!! HELP!!! AHHHHH
whoa sorry just had a flashback of me drowning haha
- madirish0
epill- the processor does not contribute to viruses, the operating system does. it is said that the Intel chips have faster clock speeds and cam process more info at once than the chips Apple was using (Motorola-built).
and i would wait as well on the purchase. the software issue is a huge one and will not be a compelte suite ready for the new system architecture for several, several months.... and then it will still be 1st generation w/ undoubted bugs. just look at the CS suite when it arrived.

thank you madirish!
finally a response to a question i have asked maybe 100000 times here in the pvn and only got answers that kOna gives like "apples are like hobos, and a hammer to each yeilds the same result, smush"i am running a G3 with little to no memory and very slow, but i still manage to get my work done with it. i have been contemplating to getting a new G4 powerbook as a lot on what is on the net i cant see or even try to open.
at this point even the old 8600s would rock my puter!!! so is an intel chip really that worth to get considdering that most 3rd party companies arent even remotely close to a beta to any mac/ intel programs....
they why is what i am looiking for, i want to hear some personal thoughts to the why a person needs to get the intel puters...besides a faster bus speed.
can it really revolutionize the designers industry? or is it just another gimmick?
- CyBrainX0
I would imagine that a faster processor with the other advantages of Mac hardware: faster bus, front side, blah blah, etc.
Current software shouldn't be slower with the new chips, so it's not like you HAVE to wait.
Obviously, they were NEVER going to get a G5 in a powerbook.
Why the current Powerbooks aren't considered 2 years behind current standards for performance is beyond me.
I have a 1 gHz 17" Powerbook, which was the shit in April 2003. It's hardly slower than the current 17" at 1.6 mHz.

faster render times and such... i think the only people that will see a big diffrencxe is the AE maya and cinema and other 3d hardcore animation softwares... dont thnk flash and photoshop will see a REALLY big diffrence.. maybe wrong just my thoughts
- epill_0
great responses, fake it up had teh one for me, i wont see a difference for what i do, why even change it, and then cybrainx gave the next best response, a G4 pb is great as is.
thanks!!!
- TenaciousG0
There will be one HUGE difference: The MacBook won't cook your thighs when you set it on your lap... those Power PC chips burn hotter than a picnic in hell
- ephix0
not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but pro apps that are real time sensitive wont work yet.
you will have to wait until the publishers release 'universal' versions of the software.
apple are releasing 'universal' final cut studio in late march i believe. not sure about adobe stuff like after effects.
- tkmeister0
if you really want it, buy it. then post all your problem with it here.
- 305artist0
Dont get it until all the pro apps get universal. Unless you want to use it for porn and microsoft office...then go ahead.
- JazX0
I got SHOOZ!
