Are you one?
If so, do you find it hard sometimes to get up at a decent hour?
- jpea0
no.
the gf gets up at 5:30 every day and drags me out of bed.

I used to be, and yes, I did find it hard. I am no good at it.
If I actually tried when I was freelancing, I would have been quite well off. But I started to get a bit lazy :(
So I'm in a full time job now.

Yip, I used to. all because I knew I wasnt going into a busy office to eye up any skirt.
Whats the point.

I am now. It's not that bad.. But sometimes it;s just really hard. I love sleep.

Permalance. I could never do it - but the people I know that do seem to make 25% more than regular full-timers..

i freelanced on site for a long time. got treated just like a fulltime staff minus benefit. now i am at an ad agency just started to freelance. i have requested after a month trial, i'd like to be a staff.
the problem with freelance is that you never go up within the company. i need to climb up the ladder. my freelance day is over.
oh, i have no problem waking up. without alarm, i am up at 7.30.

very. I get up and read about footy for hours.. then eat and watch some tele then chat to my mates then maybe.. if its lucky.. ill do some work!
to be honest its like 2 weeks working carnage and 2 weeks smokage magicness.
I can't buy a Merc or anything yet but my soul feels goood!
I also love that night work thing! its either than or watch eastenders and big brother live so hey!

When I am working till 2am then I allow a lie in till about 10. other than that I am up and out by 8.30-9

thats a good point tk, freelance is great for making more money and having flexibility/taking time off etc, but it can leave you in stasis.

i freelance fulltime...
took 3 weeks off over christmas and new year. the last few weeks have been really quiet and i've struggled keeping regular hours. i've had a few morning meetings with clients which forced me to get up early.i work from home and contract for a dev company... which means i have an office to go to when i'm working for them, which makes a big diffirence in keeping regular hours and being as productive as possible throughout the day.
i'd recommend renting office-space with people/company in the same industry as you... it gives you a place to meet clients, etc. the company i contract for does mainly big cms and e-commerce projects, and requests for smaller projects gets forwarded to me.
i don't pay rent there, but i get to use the facilities for my clients, use fax/internet, etc.

Yeah.. makes life easier knowing that something can be done over the weekend if you wanna spend a few days in the week doing something fun.
I don't have any issues getting up mind you. - besides the company thats provided my main source of work.. well they dont get in until 11ish!! so i just wait for that midday call.
Suits my girlies shift patterens better too!

Surely it's imbalanced though Rasko: Some work here, some work there, a lay in, going on a holiday. Everything is up and down not in stasis
- rasko40
I meant stasis career wise, as in, you may be in the same position in a year from now whereas if you were fulltime, you may be moving up toward AD/CD/whatever
- Dancer0
gpop you still in the Toon?
- tkmeister0
rasko,
the designer sits by me is permalancing for 3yrs at this place. still a designer. maybe she doesn't care much about becoming Sr AD, ACD or CD...

I am a night person. Always have been and always will be. I do much much much better work when I wake up at 10am, instead of 7:30am.
Currently I am doing full time contract in an inhouse corporate design team environment. The work is super super easy compared to my freelance work and past agency work so it kind of balances out that I have to get up at like 7:30am because I can be half asleep and still do good work.
I did full time freelance over the summer for a couple months and it was difficult to keep a regular schedule so I just kind of went with it and didn't focus too much energy or frustration on whether or not I was getting up at an exact time......as long as I kept getting the work done and done on time it didn't matter when I did it.

yeah but as freelance you can be what you want! Mondays email says GPOP - Creative Director. Tues - GPOP - Senior Manager. Wed - GPOP - Biscuit Eater.
Spose thats more if you are home working rather than sitting in another agencies pocket.
According to emails I have 4 companies I am senior designer at! they like the numbers and i like the free gear!
If you work on teh skills you just move on to different jobs in different positions. and if you felt like losing the responsibility for a few weeks then you can drop yourself down a stage.

Toon you say?
