All you div haters, what's the problem?
And what's all this nonsense I hear about there's no place for graphic design on the web?
Rubbish.

Oooh. This is almost as fun as a creationism thread.
Fuck off.

Hello Skt fellow miserable fellow.

Who the fuck is Gerry McGovern?
- ********0
Because layout tables are obviously the work of an Intelligent Designer, while Divs seem to be some sort of random, unordered mess based on whim and evolutionary chance. And don't even mention Spans...they're heathens! In a godly world Tables are the one and true way...

Nice little site there though mase...
Are you going to start a mac vs ps thread for your next trick?

Hi moth. And Gerry is right. Design clearly does not feature on his internet.

The article mase reffered to is correct - but often the other side of the equation is not just unaware, young designers - it is clients.
Sometimes clients are the ones who insist on "jazzing" things up with flash or animated gifs (I had a women who wanteed me to build a Travel agent site and she wanted little boats and planes moving everywhere. I turned her down) , or whatever.
Th ehardest part of this whole design thing is not the design, I mean once you have the fundamentals and an underrstanding of your own strregths, it's educating the client. And clientrs will hear you..eventually. It's just that alot of them think that something "flashy" will present their service or product in a better way, when 99.9% of the time that's wrong..you need to develop client relation skills..

DIV's ARE cool.
but if you have too many of them css guru's get upset. Even if you've used li and p's properly.
Best just to have one column of plaint text and a couple of h1's becasuse after all 'Graphic design plays a minor role on the Web'

I think it's pretty obvious that you should take each case seperately. A promotional site for the latest movie would be pretty shite without being spruced up a little. Whereas sites like Google need to be plain.
divs piss all over tables. I think people just get angry when they're used for navigation etc.

(Jan 5 06, 02:41)They're perfect for navigation.
People get pissed because they have to learn to do something properly rather just fucking fudge it like most people here do. Accessibility is here to stay.

Why is it all these tossers like this bloke and Jakob Nielsen who preach about usability uber alles have such fucking awful sites I can't spend any time reading them because they're just boring giant chunks of text?
