so Why would you pay 300 some dollars for that when CS2 does this already? Is there a good argument for this?

Aperture is targeted for photographers only, people that want to preview, organize, edit and manage huge libraries of photos. Compare different images in raw format, the nondestructive image processing, is a neat feature, that allows you to do lots of different changes to one image without having to save tons of them, sort of like what flash does with symbols.
Again, this is not a tool for designers, photoshop does a lot of other things that are not essencial for photographers.
