That seems super harsh.
But, I guess thats why most poeple dont run to Singapore to commit crimes. Their punishments are harsh, unless you're real gangster like that. I think that is one of the last places on earth I'd spit gum out on the sidewalk.

Plus he was in transit going from Vietnam to Australia.

I think it's horrible and I feel deeply for him, and his family. It's rottena dn fuck the singapore gvt for it...
but if you don't do the crime you don't do the time....

We've been talking about this at the office the last few days, and I'm glad it's over.
Ok, the death penalty is harsh, I'll accept that. Getting hung is a barbaric way to go; I think I'd rather be shot than hung.
But the dude was carrying the equivalent of 26,000 street hits of smack on him. I'd rather see him go than all those other people. And besides, he should've known the consequences of his actions in a country like that. It's not the only country in Asia that imposes that penalty.
And how would we have treated him, had he been caught inside our borders? we would've said 'lock the bastard up, throw away the key', or something like that... it's just unfortunate their penalties for drug-smuggling are a bit harsher than ours.

The punishment punishment is disproportionate to the crime!!
Absolute disgrace that capital punishment was imposed!!
F***EN DISGRACE!!!
- ants0
Yeah I'm completely of the opinion that if you do the crime you should do the time proportionate to the crime.
Still doesn't make it less sad.

a better story in the same paper...
- Jaline0
It's pretty hard to say what should be done in situations like this.
I'd have to agree that if you do a crime, your time in jail should be proportionate to how bad the crime is. He should've known the laws in that specific place.
I'm still not sure if I am for the death penalty or not. I'm against it, for the most part, but then I think about what I would really think if someone close to me was murdered or something.

He was only a tiny cog in the wheel. Governments/Law enforcement agencies have much bigger fish to fry than small time drug mules!
Disgrace!!

(Dec 1 05, 16:18)at the same time, you can't just let every small thing go...
- RoyBoy0
I'm not saying let it go, he definately deserved to be inprisoned. Surely, he was better off alive to the authorites, imagine the info they could have got from him on the sindicate that had him running the drugs!
All to settle his brothers accumulated drug debt!Disgrace!!
- eficks0
apparently he had 26,000 doses of heroin on him. quite a lot.

firstly just let me say that I am very much anti the death penalty for anything other than the most horrific crimes, which trafficking in drugs is NOT (in my opinion).
But.
he knew the rules, he accepted the possibility that it might not pay off, and took the calculated risk. It didn't work out for him. Great time for governments to lobby and people to protest, and bring it to the Singapore governments attention that their archaic laws should be changed,
but fact of the matter is, he made a decision and has to be prepared to accept the consequences.I have to say, as much as I feel for his family I really can't feel much sympathy towards him.
- Jaline0
Btw, most people don't change from a life of crime unless something in their lives drastically changes. I agree that drug trafficking is not as big of a deal as many other things, but drugs obviously kill people (mostly those peoples' fault, but still).
- uberdesigner0
so is heroin any good?
- dr_strangelove0
I am all for the slogan do the crime pay the time. But this poor guy was paying off his brothers drug debts. So very sad!!! This is truely a misjustice that he has been put to death. If anyone should have been hanged it was his brother ( not to be inconsiderate). I will never go to singapore, just out of protest. that their laws are cruel and inhumane.
