We've been talking about this at the office the last few days, and I'm glad it's over.
Ok, the death penalty is harsh, I'll accept that. Getting hung is a barbaric way to go; I think I'd rather be shot than hung.
But the dude was carrying the equivalent of 26,000 street hits of smack on him. I'd rather see him go than all those other people. And besides, he should've known the consequences of his actions in a country like that. It's not the only country in Asia that imposes that penalty.
And how would we have treated him, had he been caught inside our borders? we would've said 'lock the bastard up, throw away the key', or something like that... it's just unfortunate their penalties for drug-smuggling are a bit harsher than ours.
