How is that bad design is so popular. Ok I used to scrawl on my note books in class but why the hell is that crap so prevalent today. It's ugly, has no kitsch factor and it just frustrates me. How is this crap art? I hate that stuff. Just because you can draw a Deer with wings flying over a rainbow with Napoleon Dynamite saying some stupid catch phrase using your pen doesn't mean you are creative. Another thing why is it soooo popular? I can imagine all these snot nosed morons sitting around say stuff like-"That is SO not a deer!"

*gingerly backs away from this thread and then takes off running. Watches for the onslaught, from a safe distance.

...is so a deer.
this is style, not design and it merits its place. think about the distinctions microsoft can make within its brand by using such a style - a recent ad promoting msoft in homes and scools had hand drawn elements over video shots of kids in school etc; it's kind of the wholesome comic sans effect.
In its place, its very emotive and effective, but yes - it is a somewhat overused fad on'tinternet. but then, so is so much else too.

yup, these trends are started when someone somewhere has a good idea and applies it well to an appropriate brief. You can't call that bad design. However, when everyone jumps on that band wagon, you can call it lazy design. imo

it's a reaction to computer based design that is flawless, exact and without emotion (made by mouse, not the human hand). You only have to look at the 60's to see that the pyshcodelic posters of that era contradict the clean and corporate 'swiss' style that was used at the time.
and it's popular because the corporations make it so and it sells.

I just had a quick look at your portfolio and i'm not sure you're qualified to dictate to the world what is and what isn't bad art / design.
Ok maybe you are qualified to tell us about the bad.

All things have their place, one thing cannot be popular to all people, and not all things are popular with one person....
Its the way it is, Millions of people drink coffee, i hate it, give me tea anyday... but i dont fucking bitch about it!
Lift your skirt up, grab your balls and if you dont like something, dont buy/use/like/look at it!

I agree I hate ironic illustration, it's everywhere, and shows how drawing bad on purpose communicates one thing: not having any drawing skills at all.

'has no kitsch factor'
this is a bad thing?
*twitch, twitch

and where is your amazing stuff? I have art in galleries and a site that people use I am on web and creative committees I have accomplished things where is yours?
- bassik0
Hey Jaymac, calm down. I don't profess to achieving much either, in respect to design and art. I agree with previous, some things you'll dig and some things you won't. I tried drawing 'badly' as you put it while ago and found it really hard. So where does that put someone like me who actually wants to create a style like that?
Why am on this thread, I should be designing...
- jaymac440
Thanks Uncle. I guess to some of you we shouldn't complain, we should just continue to eat shit and love it. To the moron who said my stuff is no good, again where is yours? I have my stuff all over the net, my site and tons of other sites. My art sells in Galleries. I have sold all over the world including Africa. I have a radio show as well. I can back up my mouth, you haven't shown me anything. Bad art and Design is out there and unfortunately I cannot turn my eye from it. Shitty work is frustrating but I guess to the Hitler Youth Group who responded they don't mind it.
