But all the kids are doing it, Mattia!
Every motion designer I know is learning 3D and Maya seems to be the app of choice.
What would you recommend?

Well, I'm not saying that it's bad! I'm saying that it's not the easiest to use. I'm a motion designer, and use after effects daily, and for my 3D needs I use lightwave, and cinema 4D. I know Maya too, but I find myself always going back to Lightwave everytime I start a project. We do a lot of character animation, and Maya is great for that.
Maybe it's just me! =)

spend $20 and get a new mouse?

I have the single button bluetooth mouse too, and trying to use photoshop and Maya with it is crazy at best, tried the mighty mouse, but... eh. Just buy a normal mouse, and if you can get three button or one from wacom, that would be best.

You HAVE to use a two button mouse with a wheel.
I tried Lightwave and Maya (older versions) and thought Maya was much easier to learn but both are for people using them on a daily basis. There's too much to know and it's too easy to forget.

Yeah, i don't know.
I used to use 3dstudio (before I got started at this stuff) and got fed up.
Then learned ae and I've never been happier, but I just want some depth and the ability to create strong graqphical shapes in 3d.
lightwave. hmmm.

And Try RADTACH_BT500 Mobile Mouse_Bluetooth_ 3-button + scrolling

Maya takes a bit of time to learn but it's totally worth it. It's such a powerful tool. I stopped using other 3d apps all together and just stick with maya.
I'm curious to see what happens with it though now that they've been bought by Autodesk.

I'm pretty sure a three button mouse is listed a one of the system requirements.

wow. I totally thought I just needed to change the way I was working. Like the poor carpenter blames his tools, ya know.
But I guess it's just the hardware.
looks like on alias there's some way to set up a one button mouse to work, but I can't see how to get there. ugh.

I get the best results by using 3DS Max and Maya together and using Photoshop for my textures or course. But they more compliment each other more than anything else. Anyway, there's no way I'm using a one-button mouse refit on something like this. two or three is the way to go.

Holding control and clicking on a mac is the same as right click. I don't know if other key combos (like holding alt too) would prevent that from working.

First get a new mouse, second DON'T DO IT!! Maya is great but it's a major pain in the ass to use! We have several 3D animators here, and they have to deal with so many headaches is not even funny!
