europeans have a buttload more taxes on their gasoline than americans do.
but their governments also do more for them than the US does.
i'm not saying this rile anyone up, that's a fact, jack.
- GrammaSeff0
and jev, why wouldnt we bitch about $3 gallon. its not like we've ever payed that before.
- jox0
There's a 25% VAT, and then tax on the VAT(!) and then some more energy taxes. The actual fuel is like 6% of the price. No kidding.

I pay just over 100 bucks when i fill the tank here in Iceland.. I get around 50 liters of gas for that, or 13 gallons for you yanks..
- s_t_e_w0
in holland at the moment:
1 liter = 1.45 Euro = 1.73 USD
1 gallon = 4.55 literso that's 7.87 USD / gallon here in the Netherlands when i calculated it right.
did you say you paid 16 USDollar for a gallon?
or Australian dollars?with what did you fill it up by the way?
- spifflink0
its truecost economics. its what gas should be. not only do the governments fulfill some of their social responsibilty, there is also an environmental imact for every gallon of gas you burn and it costs money to clean it up. in america it should be about $6-8/gallon if we factored in environmental impact.
