Stem, the problem with the vegetable oil as fuel thing - a) please calculate the amount of vegetable oils needed to start powering even a significant number of existing vehicles in the world currently. b) calculate the amount of farmland that would have to be turned over to producing such crop yields. Subtract that farmland from fields that currently grow crops for human consumtion. Is that sustainable? What about crop yields for livestock and other purposes? c) add all the additional fertilizers (petroleum based, last time I checked..), machinery and processing needed to take said crops from field to market. See what that does to toal world fuel consumption and pollution levels?It's not an answer. It'll help, but it ain't the answer.
