Shouldnt you probably be a judge before being appointed to beig a supreme court justice? Or is it just cool that she was Bush's attorney and has no experience?

Bump, this is rather fucked up.

i shake my head daily at this administration.

she has never been a judge before.
shouldnt that be a pre-requisite to being appointed to the supreme court?

"The president, in introducing Miers during the hastily announced, televised appearance in the Oval Office, moved to counter any questions that may be raised by her lack of experience on the bench. He noted that the last Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist had not served as a judge before joining the court; nor had the late Justice Byron White."

that may be true, but she is bush's lawyer for fuck's sake!

for real. i'm of the opinion that the supreme court is the most important force in united states government. proven experience must be a given.

Actually, no you don't have to be a judge before to be appointed to the Supreme Court. There's tons of precedent throughout American history on that. Google it or go to wikipedia and you'll see I'm right...
That said. she's a total Bush Crony..what a hatchet job...the funny thing is that all of Bush's radical right supporters are screamin blue murder at this - go check out the republican blogs...they wanted an old white guy who would beat down feminazis and abortion and appoint Christianity as the official state religion..and they got an old single white woman who gave money to the Gore campaign...They are pissed...

i am of the opinion that you should have to have experience as a judge to serve on the supreme court.

the funny thing is Bush has no idea who he screws anymore - he just screws everybody...
I was reading some postings over at redstate.com - a conservative blog - about this judicial appointment and they're starting to say "Bush lied to us! He screwed us with this appointment! Maybe the democrats were right all laong..."
Gee. Imagine that. Only took six years to start getting an glimpse of that bit of light...

A respectable opinion, but there have been some very good justices on the court that had no experience on the bench...including Earl Warren...and the Warren court arguably saved Federalism...

Ugh...reminds me of how I felt when I first read through this site:

nah tick, I know that you dont HAVE to have been a judge before going to the SC, but it's a good reason to oppose her.
- planet010
yes - as long as it's a reason against her, why should it matter if it's actually a good criticism?

she was the president's lawyer for 12 years? isnt that a bit of a conflict of interest, planet?

It's not a conflict of interest, but it's suspect...I don't think we need someone on the Supreme Court with strong ties to the executive branch, which looks like she does...Well, all I have to say is "You're doing a heck of a job, Miers-ie!!"

Miers' Office Currently Vets Judicial Nominees, Including For The Supreme Court. "Working with her staff of 13 lawyers, and in cooperation with the Justice Department, Miers's office provides guidance on issues from the legal parameters for the war on terrorism to presidential speeches. Her office also takes the lead in vetting and recommending candidates for the federal judiciary, all the way up to the Supreme Court."
