"The president, in introducing Miers during the hastily announced, televised appearance in the Oval Office, moved to counter any questions that may be raised by her lack of experience on the bench. He noted that the last Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist had not served as a judge before joining the court; nor had the late Justice Byron White."
