I'm not arguing for or against her, just pointing out bad logic. But as a matter of fact - no. If you have known someone for 12 years that might be a good indication that you really know someone and that they are indeed qualified. It may be cronyism, but it may be premature to label it that at this point.
"she was the president's lawyer for 12 years? isnt that a bit of a conflict of interest, planet?"

I just dont think the paid fucking liars for this admin should be on the SC.

At least I think it's a "she".

from the bbc article...
"The Senate minority leader, Democrat Harry Reid, who voted against John Roberts as US chief justice in his confirmation vote last week, said he liked Ms Miers."

Newsweek (July 9, 2000) reported that the Bush campaign "launched a secretive research operation designed to scour all records relating to his Vietnam-era service" while preparing for Bush's 1998 re-election campaign. They paid Dallas lawyer Harriet Miers $19,000 to review the records.

Let's face it, it could have been a lot worse. Conservatives are up in arms about this. I think this proves that Bush and co have no intention of really overturning the status quou re: abortion, because if Roe v Wade was ever overturned it would be a political disaster for Republicans.
- mrdobolina0
they'll never touch abortion. if they did, it would basically come down to state's rights and the repubs would quickly find out that their base isnt as powerful as they anticipated.

sorry, if someone else already said this. but doesn't harriet miers look like the sith emperor?
"Gooooooooooood"

It's a plus for them to have it legal because they can use it to rally the hardcore Bible thumpers. But now that the "moment of truth" has passed, those same peeps are going to feel betrayed the way they did after Bush I. Look for a divisive primary fight in 2008...

This is the kind of shit that can backfire tho. Since these people have never been judges before, there's no record to measure them by. Once they're freed from their political/employment bounds, you'll find out what they really think, but not until then.
- mrdobolina0
she should at least have some sort of experience in constitutional law before being elected to a lifetime appointment in the most important court in the country.
she doesnt have to be an activist, she just has to be a rubber stamp.
How do you think she would have voted in Bush v. Gore in 2000?
