yep.. i surf the net with a stylus... does that make me a freak? i thought i was normal... i dunno how to explain it.. it's just comfortable.
it's funny to see someone jump on my computer to show me something... they're like where's your mouse? the poor i.t. guy started bring his own when i needed stuff fixed.

*bump for the other dude, and one more question from me:
ADVICE?
ok, i have one more concern before i plunge into getting one, i've been reading some reviews with the intuos 3, basically its swell, but the mouses with tablets tend to "suck" because of the limited range of motion.
here's my question.
How difficult is it to use my current mouse if i have the tablet hooked up? do i have to restart my computer each time? im thinking about when im browsing the web, PLUS more importantly, i use audio applications a lot like cubase and reason, and i doubt i'l be controlling that ish with a pen.
ADVICE?

he brings his own mouse to work on your machine? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

love mine.
if you spend your day at a comp design, go for it.
the only thing that i don't like is that i draw lefthanded, but learnt to use a mouse righthanded, and therefore know all the shortcuts with my lefthand. a bit cumbersome doing shortcuts with a pen in hand.

just remember to toggle the tablet over to mouse mode before you go on the net otherwise everytime you lift the stylus up over an inch above the tablet and set it back down the cursor will jump all the way over to the far side of your screen... which can be pretty annoying on a cinema display or dual monitor set up.

wow phucking wow. i just got one today. believe the hype. its like when your dad just got online in 2003 and said "jesus christ, i should have found about this sooner".
seriously, browsing with the pen is even fun. and playing with photoshop...whoever invented the mouse, should be hung ;-p

now the question is do i get the 2 or 3? there's definitely a huge jump in price, is there a huge jump in application?

had a Intuos2 and used it so much it literaly wore out.
I now have two Intuos3's. One at work and one at home. These are the best investment for a designer that's very hands on and likes to draw.
I've done logos, photo manip, comic book coloring, web design and personal artworks with it.

The sheer amount of hours my drunken friends have played with my Wacom writing and attempting to draw things was worth the purchase alone.

i use a mix of mouse and tablet, extreme timesaver in design apps not to mention the expression you get from the touth sensitivity
a must have

the 3 is newer and sexier... the stlus/pen is much better on the 3... the 2's stylus has a cheap plastic feeling which i never noticed until the 3 came along. u also get interchangeable nibs on the 3. i also like 3's programmable keys on the tablet.. i have them set for shift option and command... the three ruined me for the 2 but the 2 stiill holds a place in my heart... they're both good but it's like comparing a g4 to a g5... i haven't upgraded at home because i don't need to... we got the 3's at work when we got our new g5 workstations... so that's the only reason i get to use a 3.

I have an intuos 2 at work and a graphire3 at home... they're both very handy, and there's hardly any difference between them, aside from size.
The main differences are:
intuous has a matte serface for drawing... makes it feel more like paper and pencil... makes a scratchy sound while drawing and has a nice textural feeling to it.
Graphire is perfectly smooth and more like writing with a nice smooth ball-point pen.
I don't know about nib longevity but I'm betting it would last longer on the graphire.Intous drivers are far superior to the graphire. you get more options and customization with the intuous, but you might not find you need them... i use both in their default settings.
Intuous has tilt sensing... never really used it.
intuous has more presure levels, but I dont notice any difference between them.
though the intuous is -slightly-nicer to work with.all in all it's up to you... if you're a hot-key guy, then you'll be perfectly comfortable without all the extra bells and whistles on the intuous... as you'll most likely have a hand on the keyboard at all times anyways.
depending on how big your stroke lengh is when sketching, you may need a larger tablet.... Though i've heard of people getting the large wacoms only to find that it was TOO big.
final note: the wacom works with a mouse.. just put down the pen and grab your mouse when needed.

thanks for the indepth knowledge mon nom, much appreciated!
- jonnyquest0
but once you use a stylus you never really want to use a mouse again... it's really hard to put down... the mouse just feels like a brick after using the stylus which is why i put the mouse back in the box... some people like to juggle between the two... i'll be honest. i occasionally miss the scroll wheel.

- aliendn0
not to hijack(apologies in advance), but im a noob when it comes to wacoms...can u use'em effectively in illustrator? (i can't visualize editing nodes etc with a stylus..can u?) or is it soley a pshop thing?

I have an Intuos3 and it definitely is well worth every penny. It goes in places mice simply can't go. It *does* take some getting use to though. So don't be discouraged at first.
go grab one

i refuse to use a computer without a wacom tablet. been using one for years (i have the 4x5, perfect size). go for it.
