PS2 control is a classic design, oft immitated. Perfection really.
The PSP ain't goin nowhere. It's been a slow summer for both portable systems. I think the best thing coming for the DS is Advanced Wars and that awful Splinter Cell port.
PSP has SSX, a new Madden, a new GTA, a new Midnight Club and Devil May Cry, as well as original titles like Coded Arms and the Final Fantasy 7 spinoff. Things is lookin good for that system.

Have you ever used it? I mean youre sitting in your chair, or couch, or perhabs youre sitting on the floor, youve got your gamepad in one hand, and youre pushing your mouse on your lap with the other ? I'm just trying to draw a picture of the situation. Wouldnt it be nice to have it all on a table, and instead of holding a gamepad you can put it on the table right beside your mouse? How does that sound? That sounds PC, moron. I dont know but something tells me "mario paint" is the only game mouse support was ment for
- scarabin0
both ps2 and xbox support keyboard and mouse control for first person shooters, precisely for the reason you're whining about.
and of course you don't use the gamepad at the same time. that's just retarded.
and most people own coffeetables.

Dude..
I think that would be going backwards...
like waaaaaaaay backwards..are you serious, do you really like playing games other than solitare or chess with a mouse?
- scarabin0
i think this is just another case of "i'm too poor to afford a console so i'm just gonna bitch about them and convince myself i don't want one".
i mean the guy doesn't even own a coffeetable
- kveldulfr_fou0
I asked you a question, punk: Do you prefer to play shooters on a console and if yes do you use a mouse?
Btw, I lost interest in video gaming long time ago, and so should you if youre over 20, sometimes I would download a demo (how can i not, everyone goes cockeyed bitching about all those new releases) play it trough. Thats it

I prefer to call it a cocktail table. I dont like coffee.

Sony is going to take over the world.
I am no gamer, but the new CELL chip has the potential to not only upset Microsoft (as it will NOT run windows - M has already acquired a company that specializes in a conversion process) and is being developed by IBM, Sony, and someone else. By the specs, it'll blow a Pentium out of the water!
Also, given that the $$ come from the game, they'll be able to sell these little gems for next to nothing. My money is on Sony. If they get this right, it'll upset the Microsoft/Intel dynasty and usher in a new era, particularly with a Unix based system.
That competition will only be good for the consumer. So, while I am not a gamer (God knows I can waste enough time), I am happy that it's the games that are pushing the industry farther (to make my 3D workstations cheaper!).

the bottom line is gamepads originate from the times of pac man and mario games with simple button based action -- jump shoot turn left turn right. New games tend to be more about movement/ continiuos turning its very complicated and its all in 3d. The solution is not in redesigning the gamepad, making it more advanced/adding more buttons, but in replacing it with a totally new device, which is he mouse + keyboard
