Did you try mixing up caps with lowercase? And different weights?

i liked the three "columns" under your name.
first col. looks good justified left.
center col could be centered
and
right col could be flush right... giv'er a whirl...

i like the card, how about losing the lines?

I think that it might be worthwhile to lighten up the color (just a bit) on "Freelance Designer" and perhaps move it one or two more clicks down from your name. Just an idea.

print it on really expensive paper with a sexy finish or minimalism really doesn't work in print

Hi people, thought this thread got last in here, thanks for the additional comments, I have lost the turn over, looking at it the day after it struck me as tacky, guess I was working on it for too long.
I like the grid, I am concerned that my local printers won't be too happy with a 0.25 thick stroke. How can I get away with it? Would I need to look for at more expensive printers?
Can anyone make any recommendations for printers, or would it be best to use my local printers?
Thanks.

i love the grid. have you been reading that orange book on grid systems?
glad you lost the turn over.
the font looks kinda small thou to me. and the line seems quite thin. it looks good on the screen, but it might be hard to get nice when printed. better make sure you go with a printer that can supply a proof so you do not waste your money

The font is 6pt Helvetica Regular. The line has a weight of 0.25, I know this is way too small for printers but it looked crap above 0.25. What is the lowest you should go, is it 1pt?

#1 - Beef up the info type
#2 - Beef up the lines (If going on uncoated stock, you won't even be able to see those .25pt lines)
#3 - Do not listen to Spongebob. (*wink)
- nicko0
what non said PLUS get your printer to wet proof it for you.

You may be able to get away with the hariline rules if you change them from .25 to .375 to account for the dot gain. Check with your printer for specs.

(Aug 15 05, 07:03)in my experience every hack tries to be "minimalist" in a print design and it come out looking like utter shit. the concept here is that you're trying to get the effect of calculated restraint and sophistication, not laziness. sexy finish and paper displays taste and pushes the idea further, and makes it look like you did it on purpose rather than just threw something together
show both samples to any person on the street and they'll agree
- lw-d0
great advice people, I will check the dot gain with my printers, I will need to check on the paper.
I agree scarabin, great point.

sexy finish and paper displays.
Can you recommend any?
Thanks.

that doesn't work as well or look as clean

it looks like you have information within 1/8th of an inch from the edge on this new version of the card. Check your printers specs but most won't print with vital info in the gutter.
I don't know what you back looks like, but a wise man told me once to always make sure that you can write on your business card somewhere. I'd try a lighter colour on the back.
As far as the text on an angle goes, I really like the idea but I think your first version was a stronger design.
Nice work.
