A good friend of mine just moved there. I'll ask him what the lowdown is and see what he suggests.

check out the vending machines that sell used panties and the 26 million people who are crammed together, but for some reason rarely kill one another

good luck speaking Japanese hehee ;)

luckily i have a hot japanese girl to translate for me!
i am into all kinds of stuff, sushi and sake are already my favorites, but i am always up for something different!

I found spending the day wandering the streets of harajuku, then an enormous korean bbq meat feast and multiple flaggons of Asahi and sake went down pretty well, as did the obligatory drunken tagging mission and exploring the roof of the hotel.
tokyo is an awesome place, you cant go far wrong.

tokyo is tons of fun. it's one of those places you wander around and have a good time. there isn't much site seeing.
but definately go to the mori art museum in roppongi...you can probably skip the imperial palace...
go to this site;

i love tokyo, and i'm going back soon!

Yeah Tokyo is great, don't worry, even if you get there without really knowing where to go, your stay will be to short anyway!
Late august = still very hot and humid so get ready for that.
And the must for any trip to Tokyo : $$$ and 1 extra empty bag in your suitcase to bring all the goodies back.
- spl33nidoru0
Also my best memories there are the parties, the make sure your guide knows what's going on.

spl33nidoru makes an excellent point. an extra bag is essential. also money, as in cash. some places in tokyo dont take credit cards, and few places outside of tokyo take them...

dude,
just go with an empty suitcase. buy shit over there. be prepared though, clothes are pretty expensive over there. and if you are a big guy, you probably wont find your size.i hear mori art museum is pretty good. roppongi has changed so much and you'll be amazed by all those boutique stores. if you are into architecture, the details are simply amazing.
try to go to izakaya(japanese pub) and eat with locals. most of the cool spots are impossible to find unless you live there.

Right, finding an atm can be a pain sometimes, you'll find them in Post Offices and major banks (ask for them, their somewhat hidden most of the time).
Making phone calls can be an issue too, though you'll find public phones everywhere.
Your cellphone won't work there, you can rent one for as long as you want when you land at Narita (desk next to the one you'll buy the Narita Express tickets to go to Tokyo). I think it's like 1500 yens + calls.
- tkmeister0
they have citi bank atm at the airport. and also some in shinjuku and ginza. if you are taking a laptop, you can search those location on citi bank website.

(Aug 2 05, 09:48)are you sure about that? I know if you have a GSM phone and calll up your provider they should be able to make your phone work in Tokyo. It will just go off whatever company they have there.
- spl33nidoru0
I'm pretty sure (but might be wrong).
Everytime I've tried to check that with my provider people would say it should work but it never did.So I just go with rental phones now though the technologies used might have changed.
Also check this link.

nope, it won't work. i have a GSM unlocked phone. it didn't work. japan is on totally different network from europe and north america.
i don't know what it is, but some advanced shit.
rent it at narita if you need it.
