Right, finding an atm can be a pain sometimes, you'll find them in Post Offices and major banks (ask for them, their somewhat hidden most of the time).
Making phone calls can be an issue too, though you'll find public phones everywhere.
Your cellphone won't work there, you can rent one for as long as you want when you land at Narita (desk next to the one you'll buy the Narita Express tickets to go to Tokyo). I think it's like 1500 yens + calls.
