Hi all,
The company I belong to, Though Development, is undergoing a possible branding shift. I need your thoughts on the strengths and weaknesses of our current logo and the new one.
The current:
The new:
We are creating data management solutions for the entertainment industry -- specifically for broadcast studios and film trailer houses.
Our site:
http://www.thought-dev.com/index…Since our time resources are very limited, we don't have much opportunity for redesign. So, which would you go with and why?
Thanks again!
Everyone's thoughts are appreciated on this one

i liek the first one better , drop shadows kinda suck yeah?
- Soler0
The new one actually looks way more dated to me. A logo should never have to rely on a dropshadow for interest.
Plus, overall, I don't think it would reduce well since teh text is so small.
I liek teh simplicity of the old one better.... it leaves more room for.. um.. thought.

Thanks for this input,
Please keep it coming!

I would choose the first one. Though Im not really feeling that either.
The second one seems to big, and clunky; doesnt seem too thought out.

I agree with what Soler stated. The font and those "millineum swooshes" break it.

I'm inclined to disagree. I think the first looks a bit amatuerish, a bit low rent. The second is slicker, more contemporary but needs work.
Have a think about this: ditch the drop shadow and beef up the type, lose the blue square and try placing the first two thought bubbles where the 'o's in the type (which are conveniently diagonal from one another)

I say either stick with the original, or come up with an entirely different approach for the new logo, the thought bubble one looks like something from 1990.

the 1st one looks like it was designed, the 2nd like the boss asked his kid to knock something up.
I'm not going to bother with the second one, as it's simply too weak. The original, however, feels like it fits - I'd change the arc 'swoosh' into the logical (developed) form of an idea, ie a complete 'bubble', and I'd stick with a serif font as they're weightier/haughtier/'more intelligent'. I might consider a friendlier one though - perhaps even something as whimsical as Cooper Black? (*cough)
You haven't explained why the brand is being redeveloped? Perhaps it would be useful to consider how your company is evolving, and apply some of that feeling to the logo form.

i agree with most comments here...i respond to the first one better than the second.
how about trying out a third completely different idea just to give you another perspective?

Also, to note:
I am not the designer of either of these images. I simply need to collect some input to help make a decision. Thanks again, all
I'd love to hear more

yea, the first one looks WAY better.

"moving from a ma and pa company into the league of corporate heavyweights. "
that logo won't hang with the heavyweights.

kill that drop shadow and it's pretty nice
- k770
i'd scrap both. what's with the generic swooshes?
- nicko0
Must be a european thing mr jev, I was beginning to think I'd had a taste transplant!
- Nairn0
i suppose 'bubbles becoming cogs' which get progressively more cog-like ('developed') from a simple oval form emanating from your logotype is too generic and ... well, probably already done?
- ewo0
Interesting thoughts, folks
Anyone else?
We're trying to get all the angles
- todelete__20
kill the drop shadow

i'm going to agree with most people - the older one looks better.
the newer one looks dated and the type/mark don't integrate very well.
i'd go back to the drawing board entirely, probably avoiding the swooshes, like segura shows.
