    the 1st one looks like it was designed, the 2nd like the boss asked his kid to knock something up.

    I'm not going to bother with the second one, as it's simply too weak. The original, however, feels like it fits - I'd change the arc 'swoosh' into the logical (developed) form of an idea, ie a complete 'bubble', and I'd stick with a serif font as they're weightier/haughtier/'more intelligent'. I might consider a friendlier one though - perhaps even something as whimsical as Cooper Black? (*cough)

    You haven't explained why the brand is being redeveloped? Perhaps it would be useful to consider how your company is evolving, and apply some of that feeling to the logo form.
