yeah. your work page needs to be better. it requires intuitiveness to navigate your work properly. and people can't be bothered with that.
you need to do something like http://www.power-graphixx.com/bl… where it's all on the one page. which can be scrolled to see all your work at once.
your work is good! you just need to show it off better.

I think all he needs is a simple preview page with thumbnails separated by projects, so that we can pick which ones we want to see.

oh!i forgot to mention:
throw as much work in there as you can. even if it's stuff you just did for fun, and have no client for. people don't care about clients. they just want to see as much various work as possible.
if you designed a website, make the 'view website' link _crystal_ clear (it's not right now) - so they know you designed the whole site.
hope i was some help

sorry didn't realize it was intentional, just looked like it was poorly optimized, IMO. Stay cool. there have been some good feedback today. run with it.

yeah, do lots of personal projects. Since you ahve free time you should do lots of design experiements. When I look at portfolio, I like to see how creative a person can get with there own work.

ok so how about this in my portfolio i have multiple projects in one section like for asf i have the logo and website...should have change that into 2 sections?
i bic i have 3 projects i think should that change to 3 indivdual sections also?...or should i scrap the site and go one page...or should i have a link on my resume to a one page site with all my work and use this more of a front for freelance work?

just simple. doesn't have to be onepage, a lot of people around here think that one page is played, i don't but whatever. just simple, button or thumbnail leads to project on one page. no waiting, click click go.

I woudl like to be able to select which peices I want to look at, based on little thumbnails or something, in the "work" section.
- jdcomba0
and yeah, some more personal pieces, experemental.
- hiten0
adding thumbnails now and seperating the sections might take a bit of time
but im going to do it

Personally, I think your portfolio is fairly good, so I feel it'sbusiness communications which are likely holding you back.
To mimic what others have mentioned, the coverletter is ridiculously important, so I would definitely spend a good amount of time with each of them. You've already mentioned how weak you feel your coverletters are, so why not spend more time improving that aspect? Fact is, a lot of your contacts might not even be looking at your site because of this outstanding issue.
Just wondering, what's your personal process when you jobfind anyway? Have you phoned around first, and/or try to make an inside contact, etc.? Or do you straightoff e-mail? Primarily, I get the most feedback (both positive and feedback) from those who I phone and connect with, and then e-mail, rather than send to the general career or info inbox. Granted, you shouldn't phone if they explicitly request no phone calls.
Good luck man.

thumbnails and a new piece of work has been added...i havent seperated them yet...but i will

Being a designer means you have to be a problem solver. Each design job you take is a unique problem, finding a solution takes time.
You can take our comments and use that as leverage to building a site that is easy to use as well as visually pleasing.
Honestly, you have a nice site, so don't scrap it. all you need to do is experiement with a few alternatives to your current portfolio page. I'm sure you can work out the kinks, as you have good skills.

Dude, you live in Niagara Falls. Although, beautiful, what is the target you are working towards? Buffalo, NY? Toronto? Pittsburgh? Erie, PA? Cleveland?
Employers will rarely look at an out of town resume, just in general.
:)

well anywhere really,do you think i should remove it from my resume...i have niagara falls but i drive back and forth from toronto to niagara falls. I dont mind moving to the states, toronto would be great also but i want a decent paying job my last one was $10/hr as a graphic designer...and i see alot around the 10 to 12/hr range...so anywhere with decent pay
