i used to live anti-squat for quite some time in amsterdam. really nice. like squatting but then legal and heat, electricity and running water.

might be a non-issue. looks like i'm stuck with my hideously over-priced apartment in whoreditch for another three months.

clearly, jaz, i'm not in a position where i HAVE to squat. but i think i'd like to do it.
i've lived in a manor house in oxfordshire, a tent next to a cenote in the jungles of the mayan riviera, a dovecote atop a decrepit mansion in havana, a sailboat docked in honduras, a crumbling shotgun shack in new orleans, a log cabin in the rocky mountains within spitting distance of the raging river of no return, a gorgeous flat with a massive roof terrace in barcelona, trellick tower (self-explanatory!), a treehouse in someone's backyard in nashville, a yurt on the back forty of a goat ranch on an indian reservation, a double-wide trailer with two butch lesbians overlooking the surf in half moon bay, etc., etc., etc.
why not squat?

dunno para. Is it secure? I wouldn't go anywhere near Bow to be honest.
I don't what the Home Office is stinging you for, but I'm pretty sure you should ask your Dad for a sub or something!
Hell - if it's just a couple of hundred get someone to lend it to you. Not me though - because I dont have it!

JES*S! paraselene, I have much respect for you then.
SQUAT-AWAY!

i'm just so goddamned bored of other people giving me money! dad or otherwise. i'm too old for this shit.

the concept of squatting really annoys me - what if it was your property some degenerate decided to steal?
the fact that it's mainly spanish gypsies (and other beatnick hippy scrotes from Europe) that do it in London also aggrieves me.
In Spain (or the states) you'd have an iron boot bearing down on your head if you 'decided' to take someone elses property.
Don't fucking do it here.

swallow the pride and ask someone for the cash... is my advice.

we could all e-mail you piles of our work - once you have completed it, we'll send you the money for a flat. Good solution I think.
Para?
Para?
oh alright bad idea...

stealing on the other hand...
- kelpie0
could your LRA buddies liberate Para some cash, say from a bank that doesn't need it or summit?...

wow, nairn. loads of things to address:
1. the properties in question almost NEVER belong to an individual. they are council properties or commercial properties that have been caught in some sort of legal limbo and aren't being used for anything else. so i don't reckon it's your's or anyone else's.
2. and let's leave the weird xenophobia out of the equation. most squatters i know happen to be english. just because you perceive it to be a dirty thing that dirty people do doesn't make it ether a) so or b) just for swarthy mediterranean types. squatting is the establishment of a symbiotic relationship with the property market. it exists for a reason, and squatters' rights exist for a reason. it's an incentive for large corporations not to allow their properties to go derelict, thereby endangering people and depreciating the value of YOUR neighbourhood.
3. the uk does have particularly lenient squatters' rights laws, but spain isn't far behind. i've spent time around loads of squatting communities in both spain and the u.s. and find squatting to be only slightly less prevalent in those countries.
