i'm starting to realize my definition of squatting is different from the rest of the world...
ANYWAY, we have always had some squatters at our apartment, and they get free electricity - just no rent.

I'll just pick you and tie you up. Force you to shower and wear Emperio Armani and Louis Vuitton and live in my new contemporary flat.

that brings up an interesting point, though:
most of the people i know who are really full-on about the contributing to society hingmy are, strangely enough, squatting.
social consciousness does not pay well, lemmetellya.

grafholic : squatting is living in a place without paying rent. Apparently in London it's legal.

oh.so, say you stay at your friend's place for extended period of time (i mean, 3+ months) w/out paying rent, is that squatting?
- ********0
To squat is to occupy an unoccupied or abandoned space or building that the individual does not own, rent, or otherwise have permission to use. Squatters often claim rights over the spaces they have squatted by virtue of occupation, rather than ownership.

technically yes.

I think thats called not paying your roomate for rent.

nah, graf, that's extended couch-surfing. squatting is actually illegal, but squatters (in this lovely isle, anywho) have certain rights. once you've been there for a certain period of time, you have recourse to claim ownership of the property. posession being 90% of the law, etc.
