You could probably find more about the ballot design by linking to and from:

the lucent technologies logo ended up as a failure IMO. they called it "the million dollar coffee stain" because they spend over 1 mil. on it and it in fact does look like a coffee stain. the company made huge technological strides, was publicly traded on the Nasdaq, yet people never really took them seriously and they are teetering on the brink of collapse after the 90's tech bubble burst.

is there such a thing as bad design or would it be a bad client with poor vision? perhaps poor persuasive powers of project managers/creative directors, clients who want colour brochures at black and white prices? clients who don't trust their designers? It's easy to critisise when you don't know the brief or the politics behind the job.

Honest brings forward a very important note:
"It's easy to critisise when you don't know the brief or the politics behind the job."
Norman Potter Says:
"The 'goodness' or 'rightness' of a design cannot easily be estimated outside a knowledge of its purpose, and sometimes also of its circumstantial background."

I think those Steve Madden adds are really innovative plus they do stay in your head kind like Absolut adds or those "priceless" commercials for Master Card.
My vote goes to the "dick in the ass" logo.

are you going to be redesigning the poorly designed works?

I have to second kld. The pontiac aztec is one of the worst looking cars of the past 30 yrs. Hard to imagine that a company with so many people could let that roll out without someone at the top saying "hey, that's a piece of shit".

"are you going to be redesigning the poorly designed works?"
NO im just gonna write about it, make an example to dicuss taste vs craftmanship
Thanks for all the tips!

I think if you're skinny and a chair breaks after you sit on it...THAT'S design failure.

I have to go easy on the Aztek... a friend of mine worked on it. I would wander into the design studio and ask him 'is it really going to be that flat on the side", and he'd just throw is arms up and say 'nothin I can do'...it was sad...the designers at GM didnt have any control over the big picture (packaging, architecture) back then, so all they could do was 'dress it up'... I hear its changed a bit now...

there should be a website where people can upload pics of Aztec owners so the whole world can see who's stupid enough to drive that.

I guess product design wouldn't count, but I would have otherwise said when the New Coke was used to eradicate what is now known as Coca Cola "Classic."
jeneraaha!coke...its never the fault of the agency.i've jsut been in a meeting with coca cola belgium and those guys are just fuckin' incredible.if you sum up every story from clientcopia, multiply by ten and than you aresomewhere in the neighbourhood what you go through with these guys.they still have to pay 70(!) invoices from our coppany..but noooo first they have to grant you a special number bfeore you can submit your invoice..there just amazing stupid.
briefing of the head honcho..i want a movie of the histry of coke...but please no coorperate styel, somthing diff'rent..ok i give them diff'rent and good...now turns out they actually do want it coorperate style..fucking crybabies that never blame themselves..okay..thats when you start a thread with coke involved..i hate those fools....
idiots....
worst
client
ever.

desing failure?
the fucking client.thats wjhat's the design failure.
no wait.
marketing guys thats the designfailure.
you know what a large beerbrewer(inbev) came up topday.yeah our concept is...we take vintage people(locals pubs, you know where the locals go,or a )and we want to 'pimp' it up so tha hip people go there so there is a synergy of the cojnsumergroups.how..by putting op lcd screens and new tables...aghk...idiots.
marketing is definitaly a design failure.

this wasn't design, but advertising, but what the fuck--a public service campaign for seat belts with the headline "Have you belted your kids today?"
