Wow, Adobe buys macromedia. So what do you PVN folks thinks this means for the future of Fireworks and FreeHand. I mean, who needs fireworks when you got imageReady, right? And whats gonna happen to GoLive (like anyone cares anyway)?
Discuss.

Why are monopolies the inevitable result of free market capitalism?
The system is corrupt.

what monopoly? adobe only held 15% percent of the authoring software market share. who do you think holds the top spot with over 80%?

If Dreamweaver and Flash get proper compatibility with Photoshop and Illustrator I'll be happy. Just don't let them ditch Fireworks :(

The merger between adobe and macromedia is an act of consolidation, and counter to competitiveness that fuels lower prices and promotes innovation. Hence a monopoly. It is, in fact, the act of monopolising - the verb.
- johndiggity0
how else can you compete against microsoft?
adobe had about 5% market share of web publishing software and macromedia had about 2% of print publishing software market share. these are two very different companies despite what we all may think. his isn't about monopolies. this is about common sense and probably long overdue.

what? how else can you compete against microsoft??
excuse me, but adobe and macromedia are a lot more similar than either of them are to microsoft. So great, we have one conglomerate that provides all our design print multimedia innovation - just so they can compete against microsoft. What kind of logic is that?
Microsoft's market is very diffeernt to either of them two's.
you might think it's common sense, but monopolisin is what they are doing. Since when have consumers benefitted from this sort of "long over due common sense?"
pffft.

john: 2% of the print market for MM? 5% web software market for Adobe?
I don't know where you got those figures, but they sound shakey to me.
- Kuz0
very shakey.
