1pg is like a resume.....you glance to see the highlights....not really stopping to read....
for a personal portofolio of specific stuff you have done I think it works well.......you highlight what you do and when someone likes something specific they normally glance at the description....
if you are selling more then just your design ability but your ability to think intuitively then you should highlight specific projects and give divisions between elements such as print vs. web.

Thanks setsolid.
given the option of choosing a multipage site, vs. a 1-page site, both containing the same work, and both created with the same amount of care and skill, which design wins?
like, all other things being equal --from a shear usability and attracting work point-of-view-- does the 1-pager
actually have a benefit.or is it just a fad?
not looking for a set in stone answer, just thought I'd encourage some dialogue.

to answer you question monNom:
1 page or 399 page don't matter... its the work that matter.
But there is a BIG trend going on right now on what a "good" portfolio should be, and that is the helvitica/text button/white background/ one page site.
i have nothing against that format, but i do see a huge problem when eveyone's folio site start to look the same...
yes a folio site shold be about the work, but its your work after all, so i do belive a folio site shold show bit of peronalty and have a bit of style that define who you are...

haha its fun... getting all kind of crap! but i did got some nice fonts, thanks guys!

reprint:
NTB: "Our super star deisgner just update his portfolio site, it use all sans-serf font, white background, text button links, in a onepage layout, i think this is what a real portfolio is about, its so CLEAN and simple"
PBS: "Hey cheak this new folio site i just found, i think its very cool, because I agree that all good folio site are simple, clean. It also use a one page lay out on white, what im tring to say is, this is amazing folio site, but don't look at the work in the portfolio site, because its not very good, and not done yet.... but the folio site is very cool... i can't explan, i just think its cool, i mean it also use one page design.
PVN: "hey check out my new portfolio site!!, after months of research, i found this new style of design for my portfolio. it does not use any helvitica, i use Univer!and its set one one page over white backgound. Now you can view my work FAST... but i don't have much to show right now, i got 3 sample of work to show. But this is a very clean design. please take a look!

right to left isn't standard.
- Jaline0
unique? more like it'll turn off every single person who goes to the site, except ppl who really like scrolling.
but obviously you're not serious.
- version30
and dammit i said "bottom to top"
and "left to right" COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than the standard right to left top to bottom crap
- version30
omg, those are the worst.
chose either left to right OR top to bottom

make a one page that scrolls left to right and bottom to top

I just mean that someone could have a mind blowing folio page, but shitty work. Or a plain standard folio page and mind bending work.. you know.. work that bends your mind. literally.
don't bother clone, mine is already done. and man, is it ever treeeeeeeennnnnnnndy. woo.
today is my friday. shit. :(
- Jaline0
lots of talented, great designers use the format. knock yourself out.
- monNom0
well, that's kind of what i'm getting at... does the 1 page format WORK better?
is it sending the right message? it's an elegant solution (or can be) but it's simple enough to be confused with lack of technical ability.
- version30
I agree, it's all about what 's in it.
Geocities SiteBuilder folios are going to be the new pink / camo / black.

I don't know if it's a trend or not, but it has definitely gotten more popular over the past year. Isn't that a trend?
- kodap0
its not a trend, just a simple and effective way of organizing a folio. so users don't get lost and go for a straight approach of the work display.
