with this, my 1000th post (crowd applauds)...
i totally agree with you on theo & co. upper management are a bunch of classy guys and they definitely have created a better atmosphere. also, the move to keep fenway was a nice touch as well. gives it a feel for an old european soccer stadium now. plus the concerts at fenway are a nice touch (cant wait til theo gets pearl jam to play).
as far as simmons, yeah i do read his shit when he posts, however, i have very mixed feelings about it. i was into him when he had his own little website on AOL Hometown (basically a geocities-esque page) because my older brother had a friend that knew him and turned me on to the site. i thought he had sold out by going to digital city boston. he was the guy that me and my friends would tell other people about, kind of like the underground band you were into. then he went to ESPN... in one respect i was really happy for him cos he was making great cash and, hey, he's gotta make a living. but then he started rehashing all his older shit and just updating it and playing it off like it was new. some of his older shit about the celtics was absolutely priceless but now he's just rehashing it with the new players. then he moves to LA to do the kimmel show and i think me and my friends pretty much lost interest at that point. but it wasnt until i saw him on I Love the 90's that i almost puked in my mouth. it just kind of annoys me that my girlfriend is like 'did you read the new simmons? he is so hilarious!' i guess it just the overexposure that gets me now, but like i said, he's like the underground band that got big on you and you felt he sold out.
with that said, i still read his shit and get laughs out of it, but i am still looking back to the good ole days...

im rooting for the cubs this year kOna in the NL. they deserve to win it all.
yeah, so i hired some dude to interfere with alou in 2003 just cos i wanted the sox to win it all first and get all the credit, but now its your time!

Yeah, my bad about bringing Bill Simmons up-- that must get annoying. Since I'm on the west coast, I only discovered him last summer, and just like all the Karate Kid and Real World references in his columns...Plus, the guy's an obvious gambler, and I can relate to his distorted logic. It did feel weird seeing him on I love the 90's, but only because I envisioned him totally different. His on air persona was rather shy and unassuming, rather than witty and borderline out of control.

haha, no worries man. yeah, the gambling columns were always his best. i think the movie studd he is starting to overuse and i think he is starting to value his own opinion too much (before he sort of wrote as if he wasnt sure if he was going to get sued over what he wrote).
in terms of his appearance, me and my buddy mike (who is from charlestown and has come to despise the sports guy after loving him for so long) were driving around town when simmons came on the sports radio station and he sounded like an absolute girl. we were so shocked. then we saw him on a special to do with the tearing down of foxboro stadium and we couldnt believe what he looked like eiither. definitely hear you on the stark contrast in personal belief of appearance.

kingjulien,
why are you a fan of boston sports when you are on the west coast. i remember reading a great article you did on the pats in january too. were your folks from here?
- kingjulien0
mattyd, I was born in Salem, lived in Marblehead until I was three, and then came to California. My grandparents stayed in Swampscott and Salem, respectively, until they passed away several years ago, and every summer I'd visit. I'd generally catch a game or two at Fenway with my grandfather, before going to our summer cabin on lake Winnepasaukee in New Hampshire (where they shot What About Bob).
- mattyd0
ah, good shit man. yeah, im from west roxbury, born and raised.
by the way, every red sox game at fenway has already been completely sold out. even standing room. you cant even go the day of the game and wait at the box office, they sold those tickets already too. the only way you can go to the game without knowing anyone that has tickets it to participate in a promotion. like the marriot has a deal where 2 nights = 2 tickets. lame shit.
- GreedoLives0
really?
2 nights, 2 tix?
shit, i'll do that.getting tix to the red sox these days is like trying to get tix to the chicago bulls during the michael jordan years.
- BobRains0
word, that site sucks!
LETS GO REDSOX!
- kingjulien0
that sucks. i guess that was part of the reason to explore building another stadium, or adding on to fenway, but i'm glad they understand not to mess with history. if it's any consolation, it's the same way here with the sacramento kings. before webber and vlade and jason williams, it was easy to go the night of the game and grab tickets. now you have to pay $250 just to get on a waiting list , and the list is over 5,000 strong, so tickets will become avaliable some time in 2009. i'm a Celtics fan though, and I'm broke regardless, so it doesn't matter.
by the way, I was excited about the way the Celts were playing after the walker deal, but they seem to have fallen back to earth. i do like their young players though, and for the first time in years, i actually have high hopes for the future....jefferson and perkins together gives them a physical front line...
