Fawn,
There was news coverage all over the world for those protests. I'd say they were very successful.

fawn thats one of thing i say.
people get motivated by popular thing or something that motivates them at that moment but never follow through after words.
most of us are like that.
they feel that they did something good and go back to their SUV and drive off.
- ********0
i think news coverage was the g8 and protesters rode with it
- Mimio0
Harold that's simply not true.
- Mimio0
If you've ever been to a larger protest you'd know that the press sets up before the protest march even starts. In fact they pick their coverge a lot of time by the protest route.
- ********0
can you find me documents on what the protesters accomplished at the G8? i would really like to know!
(i am not trying to ruffle your feathers or anything, i just want to know)

Have to agree with Harold, and to an extent I also agree with the implicit message behind lowimpakts statement.
Society as a whole is spurred to action by media sensationalism. An event must be spectacular in order to garner a suitable response.

Fawn,
Protestors at the g8 summit gave people a chance to look deeper at the actions of their government and bring their motivations into question.

this all makes me think of when I order sandwiches. When the menu says something like 'dolphin-safe tuna'
Like the dolphin is so prized because they are constantly smiling and making those noises, and the tuna doesn't mean shit because they are ugly and delicious.
- Mimio0
No shit Solid. That observation does nothing in service of the actual ethical problems that face society. Just the intellectualization of apathic nihlism that would rather cower in the face of some bullshit societal consciouness.

----------------Would you be talking about "hypocrisy" mr. dobolina ;]
- danthon0
dob:
When i was commercial tuna fishing we had to cut the throats of the tuna so they would pump all of the blood out during their last frenzy before death.
my point? cruelty sucks, but how many of you have leather shoes.

no doubt, it makes fake people feel better to eat dolphin-safe tuna. What about the tuna? THE FUCKING TUNA!!!!!!!
- Mimio0
Mr.D. on the surface it seems quite hypocritical. But what it really means is that dolphins aren't directly killed and wasted in order to produce the tuna.
- kezza_20
Heidi wont be happy
- mrdobolina0
but mimio, we dont eat dolphins because they are cute.
- lowimpakt0
fawn, i presume many of the protestors belong to ngo's and environmental groups that do work througout the year that has diverse benefits to society.
They would also be citizens expressing their right to voice their opinion which is a democratic function in itself.and sure the G8, what are they? A massively powerful cartel with an undue control over the major international trade and financial institutions such as the WTO and IMF. They have control over the fate of billions of people yet they have no formal institutional structure, no constitution, no secretariat, no headquarters, no charter, no real mandate. Their only aim is to deepen relationships and maintain control and continuity of the elite.
bunch of wankers as we say in ireland

-------------------Don't we need to make observations and establish a foundation before we go off half-cocked in the name of some cause-of-the-moment?
- Mimio0
Mr.D That's not the problem. eat dolphins for all I care, just don't waste them and throw their carcasses overboard out shear laziness.
