  fawn, i presume many of the protestors belong to ngo's and environmental groups that do work througout the year that has diverse benefits to society.
  They would also be citizens expressing their right to voice their opinion which is a democratic function in itself.

  and sure the G8, what are they? A massively powerful cartel with an undue control over the major international trade and financial institutions such as the WTO and IMF. They have control over the fate of billions of people yet they have no formal institutional structure, no constitution, no secretariat, no headquarters, no charter, no real mandate. Their only aim is to deepen relationships and maintain control and continuity of the elite.
