you were right John, until the Republican majority started fanning the flames.

I don't know, piper. I can see your point, but on the other hand, with the current trend of rogue/activist judges popping up and trying to impose their special interest value systems, maybe certain issues require the attention of the lawmakers... a sort of checks and balances is required.

Schiavo is on Medicaid and Bush wants to cut Medicaid, how ironic is it that he wants to keep her alive?

But legally the husband is her guardian and can make that call, not the government. If it weren't for religious groups making a spectacle out of this she would have already been allowed to die naturally.
- johndiggity0
last i checked, you started the thread.
and what if her husband was wrong? what if she can actually experience emotion and has feelings?
you act like this is black and white and one side is completely wrong. it's not that simple.
- blaw0
what about the republican party's "states rights" battlecry?
between this and the whole marriage bit?
ah... bullshit.
- mrdobolina0
I wouldnt even know about this shit if it weren't for Tom Delay.

it's actually her parents that want her to live. it's not a conspiracy by the republican party or the catholic church.
- robbie_m0
if she actually has emotions and feelings, her personal hell is even worse in my opinion.
15 years of bed sores
what a way to live
- grafholic0
yeah its her parents that want her to live.
but the fact that congress had the emergency meeting yesterday and how the feds got involved makes me think this is very republican of an act.
this case (along with the case in ohio about prohibition of religious practices in prison) should remain in state.

15 years coma == hope?
christians/republicans are more 'degenerate' than the 'degenerates' they're opposing.
death with dignity.
- mrdobolina0
they politicized it John, can't you see these types of things sway swing voters the fundamentalist way?
- mg330
The government should have NO HAND AT ALL in this. It's absurd what they're doing. She doesn't talk, and I can't help but think "What a horrible life she's lived for 15 years."
The parents want her kept alive because they think there will someday be some kind of scientific breakthrough that will cure her.
That, is selfish.
- discipler0
We don't know what she's experiencing. Who are we to decided? Why is there always a trend to blame issues like this on Christians?
Why is it that those who scream tolerance the loudest are so incredibly intollerant and hateful?
...and so prone to stereotypes and compartmentalization. I mean, I know it's easier on the brain... but, c'mon.
- GeorgiePorgie0
Thats a smart move on their part. Would you expect anything less? Obviously, they could give a shit about the woman.

"May the LORD look upon you and judge you! You have made us a stench to Pharaoh and his officials and have put a sword in their hand to kill us."
Exodus 5:20

Discipler,
Because consistently it's Christians using beliefs to tell people what they can do with their own bodies.
- moural0
It's selfish to keep your son or daughter alive now?
- Mimio0
...And you have a government trying to appease those religious people with legislative action.
Mistake after mistake.
