more like spend more time on stability and security.
longhorn will lack stability and security, same as xp.
the xp 64 beta was horrible.
they've already removed and delayed winfs. i doubt the initial release of longhorn will be any good.
besides...companies don't like to spend money on expensive licensing and new hardware to run a bloated system.
we're already dumping all of our windows servers in favor of linux. toc is lower for us, and stability is far greater.
and, that's important when running 24/7 critical systems.

awesome thanks. need to keep up with it, still can't get away from Win 2000. Very stable.

you just don't think you will have room cause the resolution your on, keep in mind this is the next gen OS not update to XP 800x600 will die!!!
- sparker0
no it won't.
i have fought and fought corporate to replace windows 98 boxes.
give me a break, corporate offices will not spend thousands on new hardware just for something like longhorn.
most of our workstations are p3 600-700's.
i doubt the enticement of a goofy ui and higher system requirements will make them open the checkbook.
most people run 2000. the majority havn't updated beyond that.
nt 4 and 2000 are the most widely used windows server platforms.

right NOW, IE or FF the visible area for a webpage (or content editing in a program) is typically 550px...

1024 aint going away...

i will add that windows XP is the most popular windows operating system in all my tracking logs for websites.
we've tracked around 1/2 million vistors last year for various site typesand xp is around 60% and win 2000 is around 15% for corporate and to 2000 is lower than 15% for consumer....

im not anti windows, personally, i'm anti microsoft. windows XP is a nice operating system, better than linux in many respects, and thats why i keep it on my HD. However, there's a few reasons why i boot into linux more and more, unstable and rough around the edges as it is. Aside from the main reason, which is that im a nerd and i love customizing everything down to my own UI theme, it's the fact that it's possible to do that in the first place. Also, using linux I feel like I'm a part of a project. My bugreports/bugfixes help make the system better and I am listened to, no matter how small a user I am. A small reason, of course is that it's also free and I dont have to worry about breaking the law because I cant afford to pay hundreds of dollars for software.
