Not to be all down in on LA, but so far I really hate it. I am here for a few months for work and was trying to find so of the better aspects of LA. Any ideas, links, music venues, etc would be very helpful.

shit! seriously, i just got back yesterday from LA.
we (as in me and the better half..the girlfriend) spent five solid days there. i love the place, but we went there on a mission to find an apartment...and let me tell you...it was really freakin hard to find somewhere that was actually remotely descent!......or sorry, you looking for good things there...right....
well, melrose is good for shopping and for furniture (down further)... west hollywood is good for clubs and such...north hollywood is good for small arts and used furniture district....silver lake/echo park is good for artsy/hipster stuff...venice is great for photo opps....etc. etc.

silverlake rocks. lots of great restaurants.
be sure to check out the standard hotel downtown... a bit cliche, but everyone's gotta see it.
the troubador in weho has awesome indie/punk acts - check it out...
santa monica has lots of great stuff, plus third street promenade... for eats, try BOA on arizona and ocean. amazing.

Seriously, where the hell are you living out there?
L.A. is an absolutely amazing there's so much going on there I don't even know where to begin. I lived in Topanga for nearly three years and spent another year and half in Malibu. If your a New Yorker and in L.A without a car I can understand your complaints. It ain't New York. Nonetheless it's one of the most exciting mega- metropolises in the world. It looks like the weather is going to fine for the next few days, so walk around Venice for a day, then start hitting the beaches. If you haven't hung out Downtown I strongly advise doing so. There great sh't going on everywhere.L.A is all about where you are and what your into.

go down to santa monica and eat at the Fish Co. Ask to sit in shauns sections and be a total prick! He's my bro , and he gets flustered pretty easy.

LA has to be the worst place I have ever been to. Fake boobs, wanna be rock stars, everyone introducing themselves by their "profession", thugs, thieves, and liars, and bad air...
Blah-

Yes! I'm thinking about moving there when I get back.

your not goiing to the right places. There is that crowd there of course, but also people who are into their own thing. Laid back, lazy days and drinks by the beach. fuck the fame whores, actually feel sorry for them.

Asking what to do in L.A. is like asking what to do in the United States.
Need details, what are you into, and what neighborhood do you live in?

If you're into art:
MOCA, LACMA, Bergamot Station, Getty, lots of good galleries in Hollywood and Santa Monica.
One of my favorite places in LA is the Huntington Gardens in Pasadena - beautiful gardens, best cactus gardens ever.

Go to Point Doom in Malibu. Hidden off the beach, cool to go hike and chill out. I am moving out there soon. I love the west coast. Not into the whole mover shaker scene. But I am a musician , so i occasionally have to put up with those diks anyway. MAinly just surf, cayak, skate, cruise on my bike and the beach.
