When people say they "hate L.A." it's usually because they are clueless about the place.
But we don't mind, hate the place if you want to. We don't need more people here. :)Like most good things, L.A. takes time. It's not easy to get around and many of the city's best features are not in travel books.
Hike in Santa Monica mountains, Temescal or Topanga canyon. Go see the ddisney concert hall before they cover it up. Visit Bergamot station for many great gallery side by side...

anyone that hates la is a chump. there are clubs bars and restaurants like every other city, but where the hell else can you comfortably go snowboarding in big bear and be back in time to surf an afternoon session and still make it home for desperate housewives?
like whut. haters go home.

i hate LA, but i fear i will spend most of my life here. (done about 25 years here so far.)
i take a very pragmatic approach to doing anything around LA these days.

I'm a big fan of Temple Bar. Great scene and damn good hip-hop, jazz, and downtempo.

LA gets a bad rap. Yes, traffic is crazy.. but you learn the routes and the times to stay off the freeways. Smog is smog... I feel a lot dirtier walking through NYC. There are a lot of shallow peeps here, but that doesn't mean you gotta hang with them.
There are over 300 sunny days a year! The hottest women on the planet all flock here. Great art scene, a better music scene, amazing food everywhere. In LA you can snowboard and surf in the same day if you wanted. A friend once told me that if you stay in LA for two years you won't ever leave.

i agree with dahl... LA grows on you. I'm an Aussie and moved here 2 years ago. I really hated LA at first, but now have true affection for it. It is full of surprises, you just have to know where to look. My favourite is the Getty Museum gardens - I happily spend whole afternoons there.
