I wonder if we'll believe it when the east coast is underwater?

You should pick up the latest issue of Scientific American if you like this topic. The writers talk about how Ice Ages have a similar cycle and how they've been interrupted by farming in the last 8,000 years.

Trust me it's happening and the only person that can really help prevent it is Dubya and he doesn't wanna know shit..... apart from his precious oil firms.
(I am in the process of purchasing my first Gas (Hybrid)powered car:)
- lowimpakt0
don't just think about car re. emissions. Nokia did an interesting Life-cycle study on phones as pat of an EU Integrated product policy pilot-project.
- lowimpakt0
and i meant look to paragraph 5 re. CO2 emissions from electronic product use (sourced energy)
just read an interesting report on the 'rebound' effect and ICT equipment.
actually, yawn.
- inspiration0
apparently 50% of scientists think its exists
and 50% think its a myth
(employed by oil producers and governments)how can anyone seriously think that we're having no effect on the climate.
- usrper0
inspirations right.
inspiration is always right.
- abizzyman0
how can anyone seriously think that today's 'scientists' have all the answers based on a little more than 100 years of actual weather data?
how can anyone seriously think that if this is a real situation - that mankind is actually capable of fixing it?
... and shut the hell up about 'dubya'... ya'll make it sound like it's his fault -- this shit's been brewing for years -- I'm not exactly his biggest fan -- but c'mon... show some proof before you start saying that the 50% who say global warming isn't happening all work for oil and gov.
Ask the French, the Germans... or our pal Kofi over there at the U.N. about the oil for food scandal -- I'm sure they've got some answers for you too.

Bless you my son, abizzyman. Well put in a lot of ways.
*symbols the cymbals, let the America bashing commence

"Trust me it's happening and the only person that can really help prevent it is Dubya and he doesn't wanna know shit..... apart from his precious oil firms. "
ignorant.
- lowimpakt0
yea blaming climate change on dubya is plain silly. but the need for an internationalisation of the response to the issue is clear. there is no time for arsing around with interjections etc. The focus on dubya is simply to do with proportionality of impact and position of leverage etc
On the other hand US industry is making moves towards energy efficiency and co-operative legislative agreements etc mainly because they need to have good international relationsships even if their government doesn't. They are not driven by ideology but are driven by cash.

climate change is very real, the debate is about the cause and weather(sic) we can do anything about it.
Kyoto recently came into force, but the US refused to take part.
probaly to little to late anyway.
people who think that we are going to live in a sub tropical paradise are sadly mistaken.
the UK will probably get colder as the gulf stream shifts - perversly, the current increase in tempreatures *could* actually tip us into a new ice age.
and that certainly will be no picnic.
(nb. if you plan on having children, or already have young children - feel real sorry for them.)

"how can anyone seriously think that today's 'scientists' have all the answers based on a little more than 100 years of actual weather data?"
the weather data goes back a lot more than 100 years. Actual statistics were being taken in the UK atleast during the mid-late 1600s. By using geology in the poles and the sea bed, data goes back thousands of years.
"how can anyone seriously think that if this is a real situation - that mankind is actually capable of fixing it?"
not with that attitude :P
"... and shut the hell up about 'dubya'... ya'll make it sound like it's his fault -- this shit's been brewing for years --"
As the worlds most powerful nation, US environmental policy has taken a turn for the worse since the Presidency of George W Bush, who has been a major obstacle in the internationalisation of the problem (as lowimpakt says).
"Ask the French, the Germans... or our pal Kofi over there at the U.N. about the oil for food scandal -- "
Not exactly sure what this has to do with climate change.
- lowimpakt0
I have to say that the effects of climate change (mainly anthropogenic or not) is going to effect the worlds poor more than the worlds rich. I am particularly interested in the classification of environmental reugees and the impacts on regional political stability. The New Economics Foundation estimated that by 2050 150 million people could be displaced by 'ecological push-factors'
http://www.neweconomics.org/gen/…
what I like about Kyoto is that it sets a focus on the issue at hand and has much to do with issues of energy security as it does to the climate. The future energy shocks to the industrial system/global economy will be great and setting the foundations to cushion against those shocks takes 20 year visionary planning. The priority for countries such as those in the EU is to improve issues of energy security and future demand through complex webs of interdependant legislative tools as opposed to geo-political strongarming
- Kuz0
dude the answer is simple. I can't believe no-ones considering it.
Nuclear energy across the board.
Collect all the nuclear waste together. And then every say, 50-100 yeras, blast that shit off to the sun. Might keep Ra burning for a bit longer - thereby averting anovva threat to the survival of this wretched species.
- lowimpakt0
i want a nuclear powered iPod

All you pro-Global Warming dudes are being LIED to.
Global Warming, or rather, the popular explanation for it, is nothing more than theory.
The planet is warming up, yes - but this is not due to your average mum driving the kids to school, or even airplanes or smokestacks.
Here's something for you to think about: The Ocean (which cover two thirds of the planet) produces more CO2 than we do. By tons. Not just a few tons, but MILLIONS and MILLIONS of tons.
Mother nature has her own cycle you know.. and we aint big enough to fuck with it. All those silt examples that Kuz shows you, prove one other thing: that earth has been here before, getting hotter, and cooling off. Getting hotter, and cooling off. Getting hotter, and cooling off. Getting hotter, and cooling off....

it's snowing again here. and we had the coldest temperature last night ever for this month!!!!!
i call it a case of Global Cool Down!
