Can anyone tell me good things about Charlotte, North Carolina? What is it like out there? Is it nature friendly or more of a concrete jungle? How are the seasons? How is life out there?
cheers,
d

Nice mix of city and nature.
Not too far from mountains or beaches and alot of parks.

That's what I hear radar, thanks for confirming it once again; that's something I'm looking forward to.
They say it's about two hours from either or i.e. beach or mountains.
sounds nice

I lived there for 20 years, great city. Nice people, very green, financially stable, pretty much has it all. But, it lacks culture. And it's hot as a MF in summer, I mean 100 degrees and matching humidity. I had to move west for cooler temps and culture and larger mtns.

If I were to move there, I would be coming from HOT climates so that's cool; but the culture thing; hmmmmm, I crave culture. I'm going for a visit next week to see for myself. Charlotte sounds nice though, overall.
thanks for the feedback Davey

I grew up in that area...
Mountains: The resorts are slammed with church groups from Florida and yuppies from Atlanta. Awesome to hike/camp/mt bike, but i have a hard time going back with all the eco-devestation.
Charlotte: Used to be a large punk scene there years ago, lots of skateboarding, Dave Collier (ex-Burton pro) runs this site http://www.skatecharlotte.com and Dieter Wagner (ex-Burton/Joyride) runs Black Sheep sk8boards.
Beach: Thats 4 to 6 hours depending which one you are going to.
Culture... Suburban upper middle class white folk with lots of rednecks and mid-west transplants. Strip malls, NASCAR, and Bank of America and plan on driving aroud in your car alot.

Born and raised on the westside of Charlotte. Sometimes I really miss it. The redneck NASCAR thing is over stated all the time. Its a southern city, so you have those people in the suburbs, but from what i can tell, you are not looking to be in the suburbs.
In the city, it is really nice, and everytime I go home, it is better. Super clean and modern. Broke ground on a light rail system last month and prublic transit has imporved drastically.
Some really great neighborhoods, and a super friendly atmosphere. Check out Dilworth and Uptown.
If you have any questions, let me know. I know the city really well.
Good luck.

just in case you are still reading, I live in Rock Hill SC, about 15 min south of Charlotte. Basically just an overflow city for Charlottes workers, we have a design school here at Winthrop University, (me still student), Charlotte is really nice, clean, fun, growing, everything you need, as for the culture....you get all the goods, a southern city, with the modern twist.
Is a banking town though, so, money is bouncing around the town, and people dont know what to do with it. People make San Fransisco wages, and have NC prices.
all just FYI, from my perspective

Nice-one Puck. Thanks.
