Born and raised on the westside of Charlotte. Sometimes I really miss it. The redneck NASCAR thing is over stated all the time. Its a southern city, so you have those people in the suburbs, but from what i can tell, you are not looking to be in the suburbs.
In the city, it is really nice, and everytime I go home, it is better. Super clean and modern. Broke ground on a light rail system last month and prublic transit has imporved drastically.
Some really great neighborhoods, and a super friendly atmosphere. Check out Dilworth and Uptown.
