Forest trees I want,
No sour milk for me,
But beer and wine,
So can the wood-man be jolly and gay

wow, this thread went a little crazy... there was one quote in the thread that brings it back to where i think the thread started:
"this one of my favorite quotes.
the best way to brake the rules is to never have learned them.
- Eric Jordan 2advanced"this is true of anything in life. when we are kids, we look at things with such incredible creativity... how do we get back to solving our design problems like we did before we had so many preconceived notions and set ways of solving problems, like when we were kids? if all rules are imposed on us, how do we unlearn them so we can be truly creative?
maybe we shouldn't be looking for the next big thing, the new style, but where design can go next. and a design portal is a great place to discuss ideas like this. it's unfortunate when people just start insulting each other. not really the best way to facilitate a discussion.
of course, someone also mentioned clients don't give a shit about groundbreaking design, they just want some one to make them look good. and it's very true. maybe it doesn't matter if people are ripping each other off then. they're getting the job done not trying to change design.
ok, i'm done.

i agree that everything startng to look the same, i think if you analagise the media as a magazine, all glossies are a similar size and format so are tabloids and comics - they raraley stra from a format - i just think the media is calming down and getting to the nitty gritty of creating sites that sell
i hate the bloggified designs that are abundent lateley as people 'experiment' with css and accessibility but really believe that in the next few years smaller businesses will begin to understand that brand experience is also a massive part of marketing and that everything doesnt have to be 100% informational
heres hoping anyway

i know what u mean about the bloggified/css sites bill
