i know what u mean about the bloggified/css sites bill
- trooperbill0
i agree that everything startng to look the same, i think if you analagise the media as a magazine, all glossies are a similar size and format so are tabloids and comics - they raraley stra from a format - i just think the media is calming down and getting to the nitty gritty of creating sites that sell
i hate the bloggified designs that are abundent lateley as people 'experiment' with css and accessibility but really believe that in the next few years smaller businesses will begin to understand that brand experience is also a massive part of marketing and that everything doesnt have to be 100% informational
heres hoping anyway

wow, this thread went a little crazy... there was one quote in the thread that brings it back to where i think the thread started:
"this one of my favorite quotes.
the best way to brake the rules is to never have learned them.
- Eric Jordan 2advanced"this is true of anything in life. when we are kids, we look at things with such incredible creativity... how do we get back to solving our design problems like we did before we had so many preconceived notions and set ways of solving problems, like when we were kids? if all rules are imposed on us, how do we unlearn them so we can be truly creative?
maybe we shouldn't be looking for the next big thing, the new style, but where design can go next. and a design portal is a great place to discuss ideas like this. it's unfortunate when people just start insulting each other. not really the best way to facilitate a discussion.
of course, someone also mentioned clients don't give a shit about groundbreaking design, they just want some one to make them look good. and it's very true. maybe it doesn't matter if people are ripping each other off then. they're getting the job done not trying to change design.
ok, i'm done.

nick not everyone wants a tree and leaves on their tshirt your stuff is nice and there is a place for it but i wouldnt wear it i want the future now 2a makes me feel like were actually getting to the places they promised my dad in the 60s

when i first got into web design i too thought that 2a was the shiznit... this was when they had their classic blue website (the one before their current one)
and to say i don't respect them is a lie, because i do respect the fact that they're still alive, kickin and doing well... when so many [good] design shops over the years have fallen by the wayside.
but visually, i think that the work they produce is uninspired, bloated, crap. there are some exceptions, and by all means every one of their works have been very very well excecuted... but great excecution doesn't save a shite idea/design.
i wish 2a would surprise me. you'd think they'd have it in them, wouldn't you?
- blackspade0
you know those old movies, like Back to the Future etc, where certain scenes are set 'in the future' and like, its the year 2020, and things are portrayed as Silver and Metalic and 'futureristic' ?
thats what I think of when i look at 2advanced and their work.
- BonSeff0
yeah, ive been a fan since they were on geo cities, when that shit was RAW!
meh, i guess this thread wasnt really about them anyhoo.
- blaw0
you know, my take on 2a has always been similar to people that love a band until they become popular, then they hate it.
sure, there's a "shove it down your throat" aspect, but that's not something that can be blamed on the band.

i dont get it either i think its cool as hell
