I stopped subscribing as it was turning in a graphic jerkoff and it was starting to get expensive. It reflects a good niche in graphic design but is more of a showcase of new stuff.
It would be good to subscribe to other magazines to contrast this so as to get a complete picture of what is going on in design.
Creative review has been around for decades and has its ups and downs. Eye is great for discursive issues but you're paying for each word.
I would say that I buy fewer books and more magazines now.

When I looked at the new Grafik yesterday at the bookstore, I was a bit disappointed to see quite a few paper samples within it - the kind that make the pages hard to turn.
That's what I expect from How and other crap like that where you can't find articles or content because half the magazine is samples. But Grafik, it has a very international feel and I don't think I'd seen paper samples ever in it.

Grafik is not what it used to be, the design has gone downhill, and so has the editorial. All style and no substance, you will get better inspiration and articles looking online, don’t waste your money.

graphic is better than grafik
but it seems to be a ee bit more arty
grafik just seems like a print biased computerArts
its all the same crowd of designers wanking all over eachother..
granted a lot of them are REALLY good - but in every issue they will feature 4 out of the 10 big names.. it just gets a bit boring.. esp when u can check online what those peopl ehav ebeen doing..
WIRED, Craphound, Print, Idea are the ones i tend to look out for...
every now and again theres a decent D&Confused but its rare...
what happened to that Candy pdf zine
it started off in the rigt direction...- Graphic is just indulgent nonsense by designers for designersmodern

what do people think of the design/art direction of grafik? personally, typographically it's quite horrendous. what is with the 'outdentation of their paragraphs? i don't understand it.

.net or web designer would be better if they didn't have so many accessibility people working for it... i know its important in some areas, but jeez

I agree, nothing worse than a web monkey James, they don't seem to understand the balance between functional & aesthetics, it's all guidelines this, HTML,CSS that!, in the end your website looks like oppressed version of your initial design concept, and you're left with a migraine, thinking why do I bother!!!!
Like when you posted your site in that forum, yes I guess some of it might have been helpful, but the main seemed like a bunch of talentless web jockeys who worship Zeldman!

yeah, you get all these sites that look like shite

Unless they've ditched the type palette, I can't stand grafik. Makes my eyes hurt. Who the hell sets an entire magazine in Avant Garde? It's bad enough when people think setting long bodies of text in Helvetica is advisable...

I like the content of CA, but the design looks like a company prospectus for a mid-Atlantic law firm ca. 1999. That dead aqua-gray they use all over the place is about as inspiring as wet toilet paper.
