I was thinking of subscribing to Grafik. I’ve never read it but I’ve heard good things about it.
I already have a subscription to Creative Review. Do I need both?

download pdfs from the mag and see if you like it.

bit biased but grafik is better than creative review, plus grafik reply to your emails :)

Some issues have been pretty good but i think it's a bit dodgy actually...

Creative Review - full of shit ads and mostly about advertising.
Grafik - pure graphics!
- so true. I subscribed last year. I don't think I even bother in opening it... it's just ads!

with creative review you get to find out who dressed up as the hofmesiter bear etc.

got to say Creative Review is better in my book, more variety and better value too, although i did pick up the latest issue of Grafik and thought it had improved.
I would buy a few copies first and see if you like rather than commit to subscribing.
My fave mag at the moment and well worth subscribing is Res Magazine. Only thing I read cover to cover...- CR? ADVERTS ADVERTS ADVERTS ADVERTS ADVERTS ADVERTS ADVERTS ADVERTS ADVERTS ADVERTS ADVERTS ADVERTS ADVERTS ADVERTS ADVERTSmodern

I think the writing and comment in Grafic is decidedly third rate.
EYE is the best one for my money.

Eye is far too full of intellectual bollocks

Res is superfantastic... plus, when you subscribe to the magazine, you get also get a DVD of shorts/music/etc. with each issue.
how about Print? you get the intellectual brain of Emigre plus a bunch of pretty pictures...
(( and emigre, at this point, is only readable... no pictures... I miss the cardboard sleeve format ))

id buy some more Phaidon press books...MMmmm precious...My sweet precious

If were just talkin about creative review and grafik then i would probably say get both, theyre very alike in one way, they both have good months and bad months in terms of the content. So get both and be happy!
My 2c

I reckon you actually learn something when you read EYE. I learn very little, or generally, nothing at all when I read grafik. It feels shallow, but then, maybe that's a fair reflection of our industry and careers

it's a really nicely researched and laid out mag. it used to be international design.
- alexkxs0
what used to be iD?
- graphic_ape0
Grafik was better when it was graphics international... why change such a fantastic journal?
however the writing is now poor /dumbed down and the magazine layout has ironically been effected by 'design over content'. Body copy is difficult to read often set in a headline font - in a word - crap.
Also Grafik dedicates whole issues to specific areas of 'graphic design' rather than a general overview, e.g. you might end up with a magazine dedicated to fashion, so I'd recommend only buying this off the shelf, when the content is relevant to what you're interested in.
Save your money I'd say, stick with CR.
