"The fact that they would pull down the home page of their site is amazing."
yeah, practically unheard of... such an act of sacrifice...
i'm not against apple putting up that message. it could have been done with good intent or just a shrewd marketing strategy. those that want to be optimistic (read: apple lovers) may see it as a noble way of showing support. others may see it differently.
the point is, i don't think anyone here can claim to know their intent - so it's not worth arguing about.

i am not an apple lover. in fact they scare me as much as clowns. but i appreciate them linking to the donation sites.

...and on a positive note http://www.redcross.org/pressrel…

and regardless of their intent, if it helps out victims of the tsunami, how can it be criticized?
any help is good help at this point.

"and regardless of their intent, if it helps out victims of the tsunami, how can it be criticized?"
it shouldn't be, but i don't know that they should be praised either.
and the apple lover comment was a joke... i'm sure apple fans would jump at the chance to cheer for MS if they had done the same, right?

i think if everyone in the world donated only $1 then i think there would be enough money.

the earth swallowed us and spit us out. input/output. with .00003%+ of us now gone. and my measly buck is gonna help? the earth makes me feel little - and now the dollar makes me feel big. so i guess there is a balance.

This is top class marketing and even if they haven't paid a buck it's still good. Basically, people behave like dumb sheeps and I'm sure there are plenty thinking "even these companies help, probably I should join too".

apple's stock just went up...

i am sickened by the fact that people here think apple is doing this to help themselves rather then the victims. for fuck sake.
kona summed it up beautifully.
there's no ploy, they just want to help. end of story.
- mrdobolina0
how do you know that?
- shaft0
Of course, and they do help a lot. And let's hope we'll never know the discussions whih took place in the companies' board rooms before changing their sites.

the fact that everyone that is an apple fan got all warm and fuzzy feeling after seeing it never entered their marketing departments mind, Im sure.

props to apple. any help counts. doesn't look like marketing, looks like a good idea to me cause lots of companies doingh that (skype etc...)

that Red Cross company must be doing pretty well nowdays with everyone asking to give them money and stuff... I want to jump and get myself piece of that action how do i invest? ... what's their marketing strategy... what are they selling, crosses, red crosses? Man if only i got that idea before them who would think epople were stupid enough to invest in crosses, never underestimate power of christainity.

Again, I don't pretend to know Apple or Amazon's motives and if they are genuine. But their need to broadcast to the world that they "care" is what makes me question their sincerity.
- mitsu0
i don't question their sincerity, i just don't have faith in it. again, it's the intent that's suspect, not the gesture itself. i wish more companies would follow suit.

I dout they are doing it to for marketing reasons when they say goodbye and piad their respect in a nice way to Ray Charles, George Harrison, helping people after the flood or whatever it is!
Come on, why is it that you people always have to dig up some negative ideas when the world is trying to help!?!
You don't know a flying fuck what the people at Apple think
or had in mind when they put it up, so shut it !
