You're assuming that innovation is always better. There is the eternal proverb "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." The "new gameplay functionality" doesn't look like shit to me, more like a beefed up palm pilot game and I can do without that. And how geeky are you going to look jabbing a tiny pencil at something that looks like a makeup compact? I know shellie can dig that, but I am a guy.

naw leah, not the good ones (Gran Turismo, Wipeout,Metal Gear) nd they won't be in fullscreen glory on the DS.

am interested in the ds more tho, it has more intersting features (such as going online, having a more 'interactive' interface). i guess its true what nintendo's miyamoto said- how games can not rely on impressive graphics to sell anymore, but need innovative or exciting gameplay. gta is a classic example of this.
both the psp and the ds are going to do really well. in japan i'd say the ds will be the winner tho- the US seem to like the more powerful beefier things.

That's a bummer to me. My daughter just got an SP Advanced less than a year ago. My brother got a DS for Christmas and I'm thinking about opening it up and playing until then. Hahaha!

I actually picked up a DS and can vouch that this new system is incredibly intuitive and more fun to play than you would expect. Playing Metroid is exactly like a FPS on the computer adds a new life to the console FPS. There are no load times either.
And Goldeneye is coming to it in february.

So you can watch movie on a DS? I can not find this feature on their sites anywhere. Can somebody confirm this?

The DS could have a 100hr battery life but it still wont sell as much as the PSP cause you can't play Gran Turismo on it.
DS is cool though, like any Nintendo product. But unfortunately all it's innovations will be in the PSP2 and you'll be able to play Gran Turismo

I can't be fecked reading throgh all these replies but my two cents:
I want a DS, they rawk - if not for the cool looking new games, then to relive the awesome N64 remakes... of course, I'm pretty much over games so I won't be grabbing one for some time (all I've played all year is GTA3 and Vice City and that was around Jan/Feb).

are they making a cover for the psp screen? even if they do what if you loose it? the psp looks easily damagable (is that a word?)

has a protective plastic cover, just like a PocketPC does. They might include that special surface material on those "writeRights" that prevent scratching too.
