prophet, did you get into SkratchPiklz? have you heard any news about D-Stlyes or Shortkut? I always had the most respect for D-Styles. He had the most technical patterns down... used to boggle my head.

I agree with you. There are select artists and labels trying to keep that spirit alive like Stones Throw, DefJux, etc. But I think the difference was the innocence. Back then it was about trying to get the girl or have a good time. Or, in Del's case, about being true to the scene and the artform. Or it was south LA gangster, Like NWA and my other favorite of all time, Ice-T.
Now, for the most part, it's Lloyd Banks tossin' fifties at the camera, or shorties flossin in hot tubs. It doesn't seem like anyone is having any fun anymore...

If you think about it, the further back you go, the more fun and innocent hip hop was. I mean, listen to Rapper's Delight...
I seem to be buying reissues nowadays of things I had missed out on 12 years ago instead of buying new artists' material. I mean of couse I'm buying the new dope shit like RJD2, Madlib, etc. But it's more me trying to fill in the blanks from the golden era.
Like the new KMD reissues... classic gold.

i got the breakin' 12in back in like 84. i think it was the movie soundtrack. i think it came with instructional illustrations on how to breakdance. it might be in my folks attick. i should dig it out over the holidays
