So I was looking for a music software package that I could record music, mix and create loops.
What would you guys recommend? Logic? Pro Tools? Reason? I was hoping to find a one size fits all.

depends on the amount of money you want to spend...
i only have fruity loops and it does the job for me (and it's only $99)
with that being said, i have several friends who use both reason and logic and are happy with both.

for a non-musical idiot like me, apple soundtrack is perfect

Reason doesn't record sound, so you can't get that one.
Fruity loops supports vst's wich si good, but the interfase is horrible, (and Im not sure if records audio)
Logic, its very expensive, but if you can afford it, go for it, is what you need, another option could be cubase.hope it helps

for reason users:
can u import wavs into it and mix accordingly, or is it only midi based? thanks

Ableton live is designed for that, live, and it works great, but I dont know about using it as a main tool
yes reason and cubase talk to each other using rewire.
yes you can import wavs into reason.

Since Ableton is meant for live use, it is very easy. However it is still extremely powerful for creating tracks. I have a friend who uses it to create his music- and he is recording vocals, using his guitar, and hooking up 100000 synths with midid and everything goes perfect...

(nov 2 04, 10:51)yes you just bring them in as samples and sequence them out. Use the sampler rack.

Abelton Live! can be used as a main tool, however, yes it's more for importing samples and triggering them, either live or when you are actually mixing and recording for playback. Let's say you want to plug in your synth/guitaro and record it, then fine Abelton is capable of this as well with MIDI recording. Propellerheads ReCycle format .rex or .rx2 does virtually the same thing, however Live! let's you REALLY tweak the sh*t out of a waveform and keep the integrity of the sound. IE, pitch/tempo bending.

Ableton Live?
Not to beat a dead horse, but is that the consensus answer for the original question?
