I still think, 3D or not, clean is the way to go. Nothing to complex, simple clean lines.

While Photoshop now comes with nifty layer effects designers need to keep in mind that often logos ultimately are applied in numerous ways. When a company wants to brand a product and needs a logo cut from vinyl or screen print, those raster effects are causalities of cost and technical constraints. Those gradients can look sweet or shit depending on the end application.

good call on the UPS logo, lara. Also the VW logo has that gradient applied to it to make it look pretty bad-ass too.
I just hate to see a good logo get spoiled by a cheesy emboss or dropshadow. DEATH!

regarding the ups logo i think it's shit and it's a shame they redesigned Rands's original logo...
