Ringtones usually are in MIDI format... there's no simple way to convert wav or MP3 as far as i know. There are plug-ins to create your own for Cubase though...

yeah...so annoying... its not actually a 'ringtone' i actually want to create... i want to record a voice then convert it and have my mobile shout, " ANSWER YOUR PHONE!"
my phone records sounds, videos, can download my mail and everything else but I cant 'save' any of it to play as a ringtone!
ARE YOU LISTENING NOKIA>>???????
bugger.
as you were...

I have a Nokia 6230 and I've been able to recored audio and set it as a ring tone. Also have any MP3 set as a ringtone...
What phone you on?

(sep 29 04, 01:58)not to be a prick, but you can easily convert to ringtone format. Depending on what hardware you are supporting, you can either convert from raw cd format into .mid or .mp3 to .mid (not advised due to big lose of quality) or preferrably from .wav to .mid. However, again depends on what you are supporting, as some phones want specific formats. There are plenty of applications that do it for the PC, not sure about Mac, but I would look into the exporting options for Logic, Cubase (as mentioned), Pro Tools and other standalones. For PC you can do it quite easily with many applications.

you might be able to do something with these: http://www.download.com/Audion/3… and http://www.download.com/Sweet-MI…

I can't imagine how you would be able to automatically convert for example a song in .wav format into .mid which would work on a polyfone mobile phone... Recreating a song with the available phone midi tones is possible, but you'll just get a rework of the original song with the crappy midi sounds.
If a phone is able to deal with 'regular' audio files it's a different thing though.

hehehe I once had a home phone and the answering machine let you record a custom ringtone on it...
"ANDY TELEPHONE, ANDY TELEPHONE, ANDY TELEPHONE, ANDY TELEPHONE, ANDY TELEPHONE, ANDY TELEPHONE, ANDY TELEPHONE, ANDY TELEPHONE, ANDY TELEPHONE" .....
ad infinitum
Brilliant, especially when I wasn't in and knew my flatmates were.....

i just do searches on the web for free midi files. I found some bad ass dj shadow and radiohead midi files for free.

DGG, you can totally do it.
Here's an example: http://www.audioutilities.com/mi…

Every musical note has pitch, which corresponds to the frequency of main tone. Modern musical scale has almost 100 pitches with frequencies from approximately 30 hertz to 4,5 kilohertz. Neighbor notes frequencies (C and C#, E and F) are always related as 2 in 1/12 power, so notes making an octave interval (=12 smallest called semitones) have frequencies rated as 1:2. There are other scales too, but they are rarely used.

Let me simplify the process:
1. CD tracks to mp3 (use any ripper)
2. mp3 to mid
3. upload to your phone or PDAOR
1. CD tracks to wav (use a ripper)
2. wav to mid
3. upload to your phone or PDA

That program will only work well if only one single instrument is playing on the .wav or .mp3 - as soon as, for example, drums, guitar and bass are all playing at the same time... it'll become a mess. Besides that, if you actually have a midi track, it's not certain if it will 'trigger' the right tones in your phone...
There are complete factories with people recreating popular songs into .mid format for mobile phones - if things were this easy i guess that would be a little unnecessary right?
- JazX0
I never said it comes out perfect and yes it only picks up certain frequencies. I didn't invent the apps dude. hahha You can pull a lot of tricks with audio if done right.

On that note, you can in fact completely compose a song in a soft synthesizer such as Reason and then export out as a MIDI file and it keeps those tracks in order. It's completely infinite the amount of samples you can import and resequence and then re-export out as .wav and .mid. Convert and figure it out.

what you're saying just proves my point that it's pretty hard to just covert a .wav you have to a working .mid based ringtone i think... especially with just one app to do it.
The programm would indeed work that reason example you used... just seems like a lot of extra work.
- JazX0
depends on what application you use and what type of hardware you are trying to support, we are being way to general here. I stated that from the beginning.
- DGG0
that's probably true yes.
Are you working with music/sound?
- JazX0
Sure. check my properties. I've also created ringtones with these same loops. God, When I finally get motivated, I'll convert all these .wav files to .mid and let them loose for people for free.
One thing I mentioned about formats other than .mid, was the fact that I believe Ericsson has their own format or maybe it's Yamaha, that has something that converts them for you into Ericsson's format. Can't remember actually. :)
There are polyphonic converters though: http://www.download.com/PolyPhon…
