not my wording.. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_po…
"They say there "appears to be a link between litter and graffiti... and drug peddling, muggings and burglary" err.. right..
- MLPROJECT0
They're not... and why? coz most people don't fucking like it, and don't want it forced upon them.
-------That's excatly why some people do it. Like any art form there are tons of schools. Graffiti has bombers, kids who just do freights, kid who just do legal walls.... whatever each school is trying to accomplish, I'm glad one is succeeding in your area. Graffiti is invasive, harsh, and REAL.
Think of any kind of highly regarded artists that try to invoke emotion. Graffit, in this instance, is more successful. It generally lacks the monetary compensation of the gallery world.

I'm done with this, because its an endless discussion - like debating art vs. design or war.
have fun.

Although I see your point, and could see that being the case with some of the graffit artists, I doubt very much the younger punks, those just spraying paint, give a damn about an artistic movement.
Just curious not being a ass, are you an graffiti artist? I'm curious if this is your interpretation of what they are doing, or if you are speaking from experience...

umm Kill the police?
I dont think its cool to graffiti peoples private homes - and I've NEVER heard of that happening (unless there was some personal vendetta - but tahts different). (all the tower blocks are a completely different matter sociologically)
But i think all the town centres, shopping malls, bridges, trains, banks, corporate penises in the cities are fair game. Cos that is an expression of power which alienates many. And so u attack it. So even tagging is cool by me. Not HSBC but TOX02.
Yeah right, like the inside of a underground train is soooo nice to look at. Gimme a break, those piss soaked things full of smelly tramps are an eyesore to begin with. It's the blatant disrespect for the "laws of the land" that people have a problem with. They find it threatening. They feel personally threatened that whilst they go through their day being channelled through the city by the "natural" flows of power, there's some kid just simply ignoring it. It makes u think the whole damn system is gonna collapse u pussies.
Alot of the time, its the development of natural underground communication networks outside the "mainstream" whatever that is. Cos that's what we do as human fucking beings, communicate. Develop culture. It's a sociological thing. And it's always the poor kids doing it. And the rich kids trying to be like them.
- MLPROJECT0
You're absolutely right - and those are your toys. Everyone's in it to get up and get respect, but most kids don't gain a respect for it right away. Mostly, it's because they're young and simply don't give a fuck. Its the same thing as bad designers - half's because they're uneducated and half's because they have no talent.
Check out 'The Art of Getting Over' by Stephen Powers. It lays out some basics to help things make sense - even if you still hate graffiti, you'll see where some kids are coming from... it might even insprie you a little, breath a little youth into your jaded, tired aesthetic.
And yes, I've been into graffiti for about 7 years. Although haven't painted illegally in probably 2 or 3 years, it still remains the reason I ended up where I am with a strong passion for art and design.

If I owned a business and I caught someone spray painting it, I would put a royal foot up his/her ass. Then call the cops.

Im all for grafing, though only in its well planned and executed forms. It is legitamite art. Look up the word if you doubt graffiti's inclusion in the defintion The reasons people have for doing it and the social\criminal attributes are seperate issues. :\ Lumping the word and the many different forms of the act into one pile is ignorant.
